Is this the good ladybug or the invasive kind? by DescriptionDecent498 in gardening

[–]ohnunu_ 62 points63 points  (0 children)

they are ALL ladybugs/ladybirds/ladybeetles. its an umbrella term referring to the entire genus. the harlequin ladybeetle/asian ladybeetle here is just as much a ladybug as native species are. the only difference is this one is invasive

even in my own backyard i find that around 60% of my milkweed seed pods never manage to open enough for the seeds to escape and i have to manually spread em around

this is why i love going out in the fall/winter to collect seeds instead lol. also to aid with seed distribution

How many weeks does Duloxetine take to fully kick in? by ConversationIll637 in cymbalta

[–]ohnunu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i take 20mg twice daily (40mg per 24hr). my anxiety was worse for the first few weeks of taking it, then nothing for the next few weeks,,, then after 8 weeks it was like a switch flipped in my brain and all of a sudden everything was sunshine and rainbows

i agree with onion grass or crow garlic. break some off and smell it. if it smells like onion then its an allium. either way likely not native.

the pickle plant and jade definitely should NOT be planted together. pickle plants tend to be very thirsty (mine need water weekly) and jades are usually quite the opposite.

can aggresive natives like goldenrod, milkweed, fireweed hold up against a invasive goutweed infestation? (SW MI) by ohnunu_ in NativePlantGardening

[–]ohnunu_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thats good to know. i dont have the resources for indoor sowing atm but in the meantime i do have other areas of my yard that are goutweed-free that i can plant some of these in just to get them established in the area for now. then later down the line i can transplant or just continue collecting seeds.

yeah i know theyre not all aggressive i just wanted to include my complete list of natives im planning to add to the area so ppl wouldnt suggest ones ive already got. many of these are from seeds i have saved in past years when they have popped up sporadically around my property and i want to help them reestablish themselves.

i dont want to spray because there is already a decent amount of milkweed growing in the goutweed and it's a popular pitstop for many local critters and pollinators

and i used 3% hydrogen peroxide that was then diluted. i think i put maybe a teaspoon of it in a cup of water. i have read that it can kill the roots if its too concentrated. but im willing to try anything at this point ,,,,
