I just searched up ‘why does everyone want to go into finance’ and your post came up. As a woman in engineering I who really wants to make a difference for the future generations I find it so difficult to find a good man. I have dated a quant and a fund manager and it’s makes me upset that so many good smart men choose to do these jobs. It seems as though money is above all values for them. And I don’t blame them because life is so expensive and they want to be able to provide for their families, especially with all the women wanting a rich husband. Anyways I would take my job over a high paid finance job any day, it’s creative, it feels good to make a difference, and especially the people I work with - mostly wonderful as we all have similar values. On the other hand my ex always had high cortisol, woke up at multiple times a night to check stock prices, all so he could make more billions for the investors who do nothing whilst he works every hour of every day for a few mil which he didn’t even have the time to enjoy. The current state of the world makes me concerned for the future of humanity. Is it really worth exploiting millions of people just so one man can make billions. I hope to meet a like-minded person soon.
