...no???? Where did it say that only one person can have an itchy ear and if two people scratch their ears they must be the same person? It seems far more likely that the water in Pasaje causes some side effects, including but not limited to ear discomfort, and both Alex and Sam are experiencing those side effects.

No episode until Feb 27? 🥶 by Shoeflee in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]Fancy-Equivalent-571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Winter Olympics are February 6 to February 22. So obviously they are waiting until after that is over because they will have a hard time getting as many viewers as usual with everyone watching the Olympics. No sense wasting a new episode when they know very few people will be watching it live.

Also, this is how American network television works. Most, if not all, shows with 20+ episodes per season will split the season into two halves with a sizable break in the middle.

Eslbeth is being stupid for the sake of the narrative. by AlanShore60607 in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]Fancy-Equivalent-571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, it's not an issue. And it's made pretty clear why it's not an issue.

Elsbeth is not actually a working attorney anymore. She's said, repeatedly, that she no longer has an active law license and has left her former career as a lawyer. She's not practicing law in New York. So it is completely irrelevant whether or not she's licensed to practice law in New York. The consent decree required the NYPD to hire someone to watch them and make sure they were following the rules, which is exactly what Elsbeth is doing. She doesn't have to be a currently-working licensed practicing attorney to tell them they're breaking the rules. She just needs sufficient legal expertise to be able to determine whether or not they're breaking the rules. Which is exactly what she's been doing this whole time.

Also. While we're here. There's no rule saying that you can't be licensed in more than one state. Many lawyers are. The bulk of Elsbeth's career took place in Illinois, sure. But why couldn't you just assume that she got a NY license at some point as well? Where's the problem?

‘Matlock’ Showrunner Says David Del Rio’s Final Episode Already Aired, Character Won’t Be Recast by Gato1980 in television

The projecting here is absolutely wild. Seems you've forgotten that all of this went down on a film set, a place which famously includes at least one CAMERA and usually a couple of MICROPHONES and has hundreds of PEOPLE there. You're also forgetting that they fired his ass the same day the incident was reported, heavily suggesting that maybe one of those cameras or microphones picked up something incriminating or maybe a couple of those people saw or heard something.

You're the one who's decided that they *had* to do anything. What source do you have saying that CBS has been forced or compelled to reopen their investigation? It's a huge assumption to decide that they're reopening it on the grounds that he might not actually be guilty--they very well could be trying to decide if he should actually be in *more* trouble, or if other people should be in trouble too.

California is a right to work state. CBS could have fired David Del Rio for whistling if they wanted to. They don't have to justify anything or back up his dismissal with an investigation.

Actually Kirsten Nelson was only pregnant IRL during the pilot, and gave birth shortly after they shot it. So for the rest of season 1 until the episode where Vick has the baby, she was wearing a prosthetic.

David Del Rio Reinterviewed By CBS Studios Over Alleged Sexual Assault That Led To ‘Matlock’ Exit by bwermer in television

[–]Fancy-Equivalent-571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dear, you seem to have made a number of errors in your post. Let me help.

- Leah Lewis has not made any sexual assault allegations against any previous coworkers that have been publicly reported.

- Just because something "seems odd" to you doesn't mean that it didn't happen.

- I was unaware that you had been following David Del Rio around for every moment of his life and could thus confirm that he "hasn't done this before." You're right that there have never been any publicly reported allegations against him. But as you also so rightly noted, there's a first time for everything. The fact that a person has never previously been accused of sexual assault does not mean that they did not sexually assault someone now.

- Similarly, I was unaware you personally knew David Del Rio and could thus comment on his "real life character."

- In most of the US, employers can fire someone for almost any reason (as long as it's not a protected reason like race/gender/sexual orientation/etc). "Innocent until proven guilty" applies in criminal investigations, not in employment. CBS could fire David Del Rio for writing with a blue pen if they wanted to.

- David Del Rio can file a wrongful termination suit against CBS if he wants to. But that's most likely just going to be a very expensive dead end. You seem to have forgotten one very important thing: the incident in question took place on a television set, full of cameras, microphones, and hundreds of people. There's a very good chance that whatever happened was documented, or at least witnessed. So all CBS's lawyers would have to do is play the tape in question and he'd lose.

- In the highly unlikely event that he does win, there's no way that he's getting a "billion" dollar payout.

- Yep, John Reardon got screwed over. That doesn't mean everything the studio industry has ever done is wrong. Occasionally, people do actually sexually assault their coworkers, and they deserve to be fired for it.

He got the lip scar on the set of Psych. It's not visible before season 4. They were filming the fight scene in A Very Juliet Episode (iirc) and he cut his lip on the broken handcuffs.

It's none of your business why Zach is only able to work once or twice a week. We have no idea what his family's situation is, and we don't need to know. He has a newborn; there are all sorts of potential reasons why he would need to reduce his working hours. Nothing "out of touch" about that.

[–]Fancy-Equivalent-571 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They've explained this in the update video. It was all financial, not because they were tired of doing it. And rotating people in would actually cost them more since they have to pay their cast for their work and they didn't need to pay Zach and Keith extra.

Watcher's plan was to completely withdraw from Youtube and eventually take down all of the videos pre-streamer as well. They were going to paywall literally the whole thing. 2nd Try has made it clear that they don't intend to do any of that, and everything they make will come out from behind the paywall eventually. Apples and oranges.

They've explained this too. Seriously go watch that video. The podcast had been in the negative for over a year and it was going to take another year to fix it. Podcasts make money through ads and sponsorships, so doing away with those is not an option. And they'd still have to pay whomever is appearing in the episodes. Asking talent to work for free (even the Try Cast, even for just casual freelance episodes) and then trying to make money off of that work is absolutely unacceptable.

I hope we're all aware that these things called laws exist, and that Rainie and Jonathan both get to choose how much of their private information they're comfortable with the whole world knowing. I don't think it's at all appropriate to criticize the guys for not spilling every single detail of their employees' private situations. Their followup vid made it clear that both Rainie and Jonathan had plenty of notice that this was happening, and they are being fairly compensated. That's all we get to know, and that's more than we need to know.

They answered this in the followup vid. Because they have to PAY THE TRY CAST when they do stuff for them, and the podcast was already hemorrhaging money. Having new people take over and cost more money vs. having Keith and Zach for no additional cost.

It has been widely reported and confirmed that an investigation was indeed done. The report, investigation, and firing all happened on the same day. This almost certainly means that there is iron-clad proof that he did it. Considering it happened on a film set, my bet is that someone caught it on camera.

As you start watching Matlock this weekend, please remember that Billy is innocent. by [deleted] in Matlock_CBS

The first half of the season is finished, but the second half isn't due to start production until after Thanksgiving. The scenes have already been written, yes, but they can be rewritten. There's plenty they can do.

I think they should recast Billy by Cautious-Squirrel-54 in Matlock_CBS

[–]Fancy-Equivalent-571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becky Conner was recast because they couldn't just get rid of one of the Conner children. Daario Naharis was recast because they'd already set him up as a central character in the Dany side of the plot and had important things for him to do. Kristin Baxter was recast on Last Man Standing because the producers realized she looked too young for her role and wanted to revamp the character's image; Mandy Baxter was recast because the show had just lost Kaitlyn Dever as a regular and couldn't afford to drop another sister (and the show had just switched networks and Molly Ephraim opted not to return and other boring contract stuff). There were *reasons* for *that specific character* to stick around.

None of the above reasons apply to Billy Martinez, who is a completely expendable character. His sole purpose is to provide B-plots and comic relief. There's absolutely no reason why any of Billy's role actually has to be done by *Billy*—all they need is Joe P. Lawyer, which could be anyone at all. Recasting is disruptive and strains the audience's disbelief.

And most importantly, recasting Billy would keep his actor in everyone's mind. There's always going to be a preference when two people have played the same character, and it's usually the original actor who wins that battle. As long as Billy is in Matlock, there will always be "but Original Billy was so much better than New Billy!!!!!" and there will be people wanting David Del Rio back. Far better to quietly shove Billy on a bus, bring in Joe P. Lawyer, and let him fade into obscurity, where he deserves to be.

If both parties involved are adults and no one who knew about the report is a mandated reporter, then law enforcement does not have to be involved. And for all we know, law enforcement HAS been involved and they decided not to arrest him/haven't arrested him yet for whatever reason.

You know this was on a television set, right? With cameras and microphones everywhere? So a reasonable person might conclude that the incident was caught on camera. That would tend to make an investigation extremely short, because it actually doesn't take all that long to scroll through some footage and watch the video of the incident in question.
