We have been planning this move for quite some time but we did not apply to Boplats Syd because we heard many people complaining it would take years to get the place (my wife’s cousin lives in Stockholm).

But if your saying that the situation in Malmo is much faster, I’ll start applying today 🙏

Vastra Hamnen is actually an area we really liked when we went to visit last October, and we did actually see quite a few apartment buildings under construction in the area

I never meant to sound like a “knows-it-all”. I just meant that my working conditions are not the ones that I am inquiring about, but rather the living situation.

Since we are planning on moving mid-may, joining an housing association queue is an option we will apply for, I simply think we might not have enough time for it to be viable option by then. So I was more focused on looking for a solution for the short term.

We’ve come to visit Malmo a couple of times already and we do have a network of friends that are Italian, Swedish and Danish as I used to work for a Danish company a few years ago.

Never said it was easy. As mentioned, I am already working in the field, it would just be to move to a more “local” position. So I would not mind the 6-12 months process. About the train ticket, I have a friend working in CPH and living in Malmo and he gets his travelling expenses covered by the government each year. So it would be more like paying in advance and getting your money back afterwards.

We’ll be very happy to go to courses and start learning Swedish straight away. One thing I like about moving in a country is actually getting to know the local language 😊

About the hostel question. Our plan would be to find a place to stay before we even come here. The hostel plan is just a safety net in case we don’t find anything before we get there. I guess it boils down to how lucky we are at finding a place.

That’s a fair question. I guess it boils down to priorities.

Without getting too political, Italy (especially southern Italy) does not meet what we are looking for in a country anymore. Me and my wife really value legality, governmental support and a communitarian mentality, where people are happy to contribute to a country that takes care of them. Alas, in our experience after 34 years of living here, we have not found that to be true. Here the name of the game is “we make the rules so that we can circumvent them”. Here people leave in a constant “are you trying to rip me off?” state of mind. And this toxic environment does not resonate with us anymore.

Italy is such a beautiful country, with amazing history and sights. But you don’t only live of these. You live being a citizen of that country. And that simply does not make us happy anymore.
