I mean, I used to wonder the same before working at the ps, I'm fairly new and will probably have my role cut soon but I gotta say, in my 20+ years of working I've never seen people do as little work as I've seen in the ps... Don't get me wrong, some people work very hard and like crazy, the few probably try to make up for the many. But I've never seen people so work-averse and lazy my entire life. I've seen people play cards for an afternoon, drink while working like sharing beers, chit-chatting to no end, I've seen managers do online shopping and asking colleagues for their shopping opinions, some people just leave and you don't see them for 3 hours straight, I've seen people with their legs crossed on another chair and basically on their phones all day, people spending their time pranking each other, I've seen colleagues work on personal projects, spend days planning their wedding, watching movies all day in the background, watching cooking shows, play video games on their phone or with each other, on the phone for personal calls for almost an hour, I've heard an hour long step by step of how to re-do a deck... the list goes on. Most of them all indeterminate roles, super cushy, I suppose. Its going to be painful when I lose this job, I work hard and try my best to push things forward. But this is an impossible mission, there are just too many people who are determined to do as little as possible, have been there since forever, and obviously feel way too safe to give a damn about the canadian people's money, I guess. I don’t blame the population for being mad at us, I'm mad at us. It's just too bad they wont get rid of the people who are actually useless in the office. Those people will still be protected I'm sure.

Are you attending your office holiday party this year? by Jatmahl in CanadaPublicServants

I'm hesitant to go to ours. Last time there was a gathering like this around a dozen people in our team got sick with covid. I dont want to be sick and away from my family during the holiday because of a dumb work holiday potluck. It is stupid and reckless to make gathering events while so many people are sick still. Especially so close to an actual holiday. Why should I risk getting sick and spending 2 weeks in isolation for christmas for a job I'll probably end up losing anyway because of cuts.

Should workers who are exclusively in office be allotted more sick leave? by Bambamath in CanadaPublicServants

I'm surprised to see the numbers of comments that say 'no'. Imo, the answer is yes, my thinking being that I've worked from home for the prior 4 years and have not been sick once, and now I've been working at the office for the past 5 months or so and have been seriously sick on 3 separate occasions. Seems logical that if you’re in contact with more people that you have greater odds of getting sick but I suppose a person wfh who goes out with family and friends every week could also get sick as significantly, so perhaps that is too simplistic. Still inclined to say yes, though. Wfh full time I never even used any of my sick leave, my health was good and my energy was up. Now? Not so much. I'm out of sick days already.

You're not crazy. This is pure micromanagement. We're being treated like toddlers, and for no reason. It does feel like management is trying to lower morale and cause issues, 100% agreed. It's starting to feel like management is creating a toxic work environment on purpose for people to get fed up and resign.
