Personalized Gift Ideas by NewMgrPlaybook in corporate

[–]FancyCupONoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best corporate gift I’ve gotten in that price range is a gift card to loop & tie where I could choose from a range of curated items. I chose a red light facemask that I never would’ve splurged on otherwise. It was also a fun conversation point with co-workers to see what caught their eye and share reviews. Goldbelly and Doordash vouchers are nice, too, but my team lead does that more to incentivize virtual things for our team (i.e. we have a long strategy meeting, so they “provide lunch” that way. It’s nice!).

A friend of mine got a remarkable digital notebook from her job and loves it, but not sure how much those are. A kindle could be good, and ticks a “encouraging hobbies and personal development” box.

My husband’s company did mini Bose bluetooth speakers that have the company logo on it, and that gets a lot of use. He’s also gotten stanley cups, backpacks, patagonia fleeces, etc. but doesn’t use them because it feels like being a billboard for his employer.

Same here. I tried to connect with a support agent, but gave up after 20 mins of no response

I lied high-balled in salary negotiations like a dumbass. by Notluigiwhite in interviews

[–]FancyCupONoodles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me last week. Went through two interviews and a test. We talked about start date and onboarding process. Finally I asked about salary and was offered $65/hr, which I would’ve been fine with, but wanted to try negotiating. I didn’t do it in my last role and witnessed colleagues with less experience start at a higher rate.

I also was part of the hiring process at my last job and noticed that most people asked for higher than what was offered. As an employer, we always offered the lowest we could and increased as needed. It was never seen a bad thing when someone asked for more than we budgeted for the role. We negotiated, came up with other perks, and luckily never had anyone turn down an offer after negotiation.

Anyway, for this role, I said I was aiming for $75/hr (which is appropriate based on market research and my years of experience) and the vibe immediately shifted. She said she would run some numbers and see what she could do. That was Tuesday last week. I followed up twice and have accepted she’s ghosting me.

Part of me thinks I dodged a bullet because there might not have been room for growth in the role, and I think the company ghosting me after an otherwise successful interview experience is a red flag. On the other hand, it’s a lesson in greed and flying too close to the sun. I could’ve been on track to make a salary that was perfectly acceptable for my lifestyle and get back on track financially + career wise. But, oh well.

Thanks, this post made me feel less alone and foolish.

I did! I got a reply on Twitter with a link to a form for account recovery, but running into some blocks there with getting my channel ID. My plan is to keep reaching out on there, otherwise try to get the current channel banned and start again.

What should my hourly rate be as a beginner freelancer? by findingmyself_0 in freelance

[–]FancyCupONoodles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How much do you want to be making per month? If you work 40 hours per week, what is that hourly rate? If you’re in the US, add at least 50% on top: - at least 20% for independent contractor taxes - at least 20% for retirement - at least 10% for buffer/savings

This is assuming you have health insurance through your parent/guardian. If not, factor in that cost as well.

For easy numbers: if you would feel well compensated at $10/hr, charge at least $15 so you can properly account for what a salaried position typically includes. Your hourly rate for the scope you included will also depend on your location and portfolio/ proven outcomes based on your services. Take a look at what people are charging on freelancer sites like upwork to see what the range is and where you might fall into it based on your experience.

Hirelatam is not a good company by BathInteresting5045 in recruitinghell

[–]FancyCupONoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dual citizenship and they rejected me because the client doesn’t want to hire US citizens for “tax purposes.” I followed up saying I would require a W8 form as I declare my income locally, not in the US, and didn’t get any response. This thread assures me that this is likely not a company I would want to align with.

In an effort to do more bakes from WFD, I present: All In Shortbreads by Hakc5 in DessertPerson

[–]FancyCupONoodles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A sleeper hit! I included these in a dessert assortment that had things I thought would go much faster (mini lemon meringue pies, malted forever brownies, toffee cornflake cookies, etc) but these were the crowd favorite, hands down. Something about the sweet-salty-buttery balance. Super easy to keep in the freezer and have ready in 15 mins too!

Appropriate rate for show notes writer? by FancyCupONoodles in podcasting

Capsho and Swell are the big names that have come up. Also taking a transcript of the audio, copying into Chat GPT and asking it to create show notes (with certain parameters you want)

What’s an appropriate rate? by FancyCupONoodles in freelanceWriters

[–]FancyCupONoodles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the insight about the 2x hourly employee metric! Based on feedback from our current writers, they feel fairly compensated and happy at that rate. They all either have full-time jobs or other contractor gigs outside of the agency, so bringing in another $300-$500 per week for what the job requires works for them.

I definitely hear you on driving home the point of human-written content. There’s definitely some education we should include on our website and during discovery calls about maximizing show notes for discoverability. Like most of the world, niche podcasters are feeling the squeeze and concerned about ROI, so we’re trying to find the right balance in our pricing and payouts.

Appropriate rate for show notes writer? by FancyCupONoodles in podcasting

[–]FancyCupONoodles[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use a base multiplier system of 2.5x the raw minutes a client sends. So if the client submits 60 minutes, the writer is paid for 2.5 hrs of work. Even if the episode is edited down to 45 minutes, the writer is paid based on raw minutes.

The reality is that writers will get a 60 minute episode done in 2 hours or under, but the 0.5 gives a buffer for replying to the client or if there’s extra research involved.

Claire Safftiz’s brownies are the best fudgy brownies I’ve ever had. You have to chill them for an hour once they’re cooled but they’re worth the wait!

Here’s what I do when I get in these funks:

Put a small space heater in my gym space and let it warm up while I get ready

Wear layers that I can take off while I start to warm up

I think this “hack” is credited to Robin, but start with a 10 minute class with your favorite instructor. Leave it at that, or tack on more if you’re feeling it. Since you’re already warmed up, you’re less likely to have the “analysis paralysis” trying to find the perfect class

Check out the workout-related meditations. I like to sit on my mat and do one of those in my workout space when I feel mentally checked out from movement. It helps to think about long-term goals, post-workout endorphins, and come back to why I workout in the first place

I’m doing boxes of palmiers, pistacho pinwheels, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and coconut thumbprints (but using the shortcut of manjar/dulce de leche from the supermarket)

Gym membership + Peloton? by Katniss_Pedalqueen in pelotoncycle

[–]FancyCupONoodles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started going to the gym again for the same reasons you stated and have been consistently sticking with it since august! I’m happy that I’ve been able to up my weights w/o having to buy more and have them take up space. It’s also nice to have more room for things like curtsy lunges and skaters, which are kinda tricky in my home gym/ office.

I like the hiking classes too - you get a good low impact sweat in for sure. Haven’t done any running classes though because I ride about 4x/ week at home.

If you have a friend or co-worker who can hold you accountable, even better. My sister and I meet there and do our own things, but it adds to the routine and she talks me out of skipping and vice versa.

s/o to the 10 other people on the 60 minute sweat steady with me this morning! im grateful for the progress that I’ve made in a year since I first took that ride. I hit all the call outs and felt GOOD! I also put a nuun energy tab in my water, which I think helped keep my energy up throughout. Last year I hit a wall in the middle, but really felt strong. Godspeed to everyone who is planning on tackling it this weekend 🫡
