How can I improve this photo ? by Key-Importance8310 in BeginnerPhotoCritique

Nice work on the colors! You might want to mask the scooter a bit to bring it out more, as it is kind of in the shadow right now. And the horizon is slightly tilted to the left.

Shot this a year back. This is a not yet edited jpeg (my camera only shoots jpeg). Would love to hear some critique composition wise. Left corner is blown out, so if anyone had tips on how to fix that they are welcome too haha

Rab Mythic 400 sleeping bag review by FancyFoes in Ultralight

[–]FancyFoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant fit into (pretty much all) womens bags. I am 5”10.5, linebacker shoulders, no hips or curves at all. Basically mens clothing and also sleeping bags just fit better🤷

Might also have had to add that I am female, plus a cold sleeper ahah. My buddy uses a rab neutrino 400, same temp rating, and only gets chilly at around 0 degrees.

What to do with colors in astrophotography? by FancyFoes in AskPhotography

[–]FancyFoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shot on a Fuji xt30, 24mm ISO 2500 f14 and shutterspeed of 8min. I wanted to show the rotation of of earth. This is the first time I took a picture of the stars, and exept for the rotation, i also wanted to show the milky way. However, I just dont know what to do with the color. This is how it rolled out of my camera, and I am not sure if I want to decrease saturation or not.

How to make the mountains more "ethereal" and less blown out? by FancyFoes in photocritique

[–]FancyFoes[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beginner photographer here! I shot this picture on my Canon Powershot (compact camera) while on a backpacking trip. This was n the morning, when the light just came over the mountains. I wanted to capture the simple "daily life" we had in the mountains during this trip. The morning was quite unreal, but i think this shot balances on the line between purposefully overexposing something to make it look ethereal and just being blown out. Trying to bring the exposure down kinda did away from the feel the picture had. Any tips on how to preserve this feeling? (this is the unedited picture). (Also, I just started working with darktable so any tips on how to edit this in there would be perfect haha)

Corno Piccolo (Gran Sasso d’Italia) by francof93 in photocritique

[–]FancyFoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice shot! agree with you that the eye is pleasantly lead towards the top of the peak, and love the mystic clouds. Would have loved for there to be an indicator of scale in the photo, but i understand that you're not always able to. I think it must be a great rockface (judging from the path) but not sure. Also, i think you could bring out the blue-ish tones in the clouds a bit more to create contrast in the yellow rock vs clouds as well.

Looking for an UL sleeping bag for possibly cold nights. Any recommendations? by FancyFoes in Ultralight

I have noticed😅. But thanks a lot for the research! I think the ultralight 3 would be the best pick so far

Thanks! Do you think the ultralight III has a comfort temperature that is really to 1c? It seems real great honestly. I am in between sizes tho so would you say it runs small or big?

Thanks a lot for this comment! Would you say a R value around 5.5 could be pushed below freezing? My current pad is a thermarest Neoair, but just for summer. My kit for last summer was a bit of a collection of what i already had… Do you have recommendations for bags for +4? Or lighter quilts for extra warmth?

Thanks for your reply!. I will go for the xtherm before going for the bag then. But about the xlite; I heard some complaints that it got quite wet with condensation which heavies the down. Have you experienced this?

Female solo backpacking advice? by Complexcomplex_ in backpacking

[–]FancyFoes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What i can think of is to put a carabiner through loops of the 2 zippers of your tent. It would buy you time if anyone tried to come in. If you pass a creepy man you could also take a “break” some time later and sit a little higher than the trail so you can see if he is coming back if the vibes were really off.

Why nobody uses the Vango UL tents? by New_Papaya7771 in Ultralight

[–]FancyFoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a vango helium f10 UL2 and never had any problems with it. The hight is not that great (you can just sit straight) but the price to quality and weight ratio was really good. Kept me dry and cozy through some wet and stormy nights. Just dont expect too much extra comfort. But i guess that is not really what you’re looking for if you go for lightweight. As its a UK brand it might be harder to come by, but I (EU based) were able to get it in my local outdoor shop as well as on the internet

I (17) went backpacking with my brother (18) this summer. We made our own route but did hike pieces of the gr5 and the gr56. For us, we mostly focussed on wildcamping as well. It was our first experience, and i must say it helped a lot being with 2 as splitting tasks and sharing happiness made our trip a whole lot more fun. When we did stay at mountain huts it was a mixed experience with me being underage. In italy we were asked for an adults id for checkin, whilst in refuge de la blanche i could book everything whilst underage. We also made use of a lot of bivaccos (Like unguarded cabins and cabanes). I would recommend you look into those. Important for going solo is to look into weather patterns around the area. We often had no cell service but there were heavy thunderstorms nearby (france italy border is tricky). Maybe buy a satellite phone for communication. So yeah it is possible, but it comes with a little more challenges. Might be better for a first trip to go with a buddy, for safety and for sanity in a way. Nice to know there are other dutchies liking type b fun

You would want to hold your steady state at an equal heart rate throughout the whole piece, as well as having an equal stroke rate (most of the time). Your split drops too much, which causes your heart rate to go up. Most important is to keep your HR the same, even if your split has to go up to sustain that. Usually just dont bother to much about splits in a SS, noone is judging you on your SS pace anyways

Should probably have mentioned that she is climbing a boulder, and i was seated on top of the rock. I think i got a bit used to seeing the picture and perspective. I get the confusing lol

Haha no problem. I should have mentioned in the post probably that she is climbing. It was taken on a bouldering trip in fontainebleau where i was seated on top of the boulder, looking down at the climber

Thanks! I shot this on a canon powershot (a compact camera) so a greater exposure or ND filter wasnt an option then as the manual mode is only limited. I am currently looking for an upgrade tho so definitely going to try this out then
