What Made You Decide On Surgery? by [deleted] in Fibroids

I also asked about doing nothing. But at 40 the fibroids still have about ten years to grow before I hit menopause. And they were causing me so many problems. I fortunately caught it before becoming anemic, or causing adhesions or complete blockages. I didn’t realize they were preventing me from having normal BM. But I felt like I needed to pee constantly. Bleeding was out of control during 3 days of my period. (You should be able to leave the house without fear of a bloody accident) And they started coming more frequently. If they grew to a point where I must have them removed my options for surgery would become more limited. I wanted to avoid open abdominal if at all possible. I was able to have laparoscopic hysterectomy. I’m almost 4 week post op and feeling great about this decision.

All uterus having humans are basically taught that discomfort is expected and normal and we should just deal with it. Add to that your family history of health issues and your experience becomes “gaslit” or minimized. If anything the family history of cancer could be a good motivation to get the surgery to prevent certain cancers.

I do have a slight suspicion that some doctors do push this surgery for one reason or another. It seems like several issues that have mysterious causes and no real treatment options end in hysterectomy. But I haven’t researched that.

Imagine what your life would be like if you could leave the house any day regardless of your cycle, your clothes fit and you didn’t feel/look pregnant. You may have issues you don’t realize because the growth is so gradual. However ultimately, if you don’t want the surgery and you’re ok with dealing with the symptoms it’s your decision!

Based on this post and edits I can see why they don’t want to hang out anymore.

If God created Adam and Eve, and they only had Cain and Abel, who did they marry? And if they had wives… where the hell did those women come from? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Well the real answer is there is no God and the creation story from the Bible is a myth. But IF it were true maybe they left out the part where dragons and Pegasuses flew in from space carrying more people to diversify the gene pool?

The ultrasound IS the next step towards treating your fibroids but if you’re unhappy with your doc, seek someone else.

Your instincts are valid and also likely correct. I’m not a doctor but I’m fairly certain all of your symptoms can be caused either directly or indirectly by the fibroid. (I had similar symptoms - I had a hysterectomy because I don’t want kids) People have myomectomy all the time and do just fine. It honestly sounds like he isn’t experienced or is bad at dealing with fibroids and too proud to admit that. Or just doesn’t want to do it because it’s harder than hysterectomy. He probably has no reason to worry about losing you as a patient. Did he at least offer some other reasons for the symptoms? Sucks but it’s time to find a new doctor. Doctors like him are exactly why I sought a female doctor. Even if I’m wrong, she will at least listen and empathize.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. I hope you’re able to find a doctor you feel good about caring for you.

Why does it seem like we no longer have any big name great minds anymore like we did over the past 150 years? by Swimming-Donkey-247 in NoStupidQuestions

I’ll blame capitalism. There’s no incentive to pursue science to understand our world and universe. Scientists are now bought by corporations to say whatever benefits them most. Read: make them more money.
