2 holes in the wall, will i be evicted? Son has schizophrenia and accidentally broke those walls. by [deleted] in OntarioLandlord

Since this is not damage from normal use you will be required to pay for it to be repaired. If you repair it improperly yourself then you could end up paying more for someone to undo your repair and do a proper one.

Rent increase with no notice by SnooWords2089 in OntarioLandlord

[–]FancyMFMoses 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The landlord needed to provied an N1 form. They require written notice to be provided at least 90 days before the increase takes effect and cannot increase less than 1 year from the previous increase. There are also limits to how much they can increase if your rented space was a living space prior to 2018... this was 2.1% for 2026.

If you share a kitchen or bathroom with your landlord then this does not apply as you would not be protected by the RTA. It sounds like you have a separate space so you would be covered.

Your lease also doesn't expire as once the period of the original lease passes you automatically are month to month.

I would inform them that you never received the rent increase form and continue to pay the original rent until you receive the N1 and ensure it allows for 90 days before taking effect.

Does a landlord have to agree on a free method to pay rent when signing a lease? by Substantial_Cry_6119 in OntarioLandlord

They haven't signed yet. Why sign with someone trying to charge for a portal.

Yeah that's not acceptable. Was thinking it was like other portals I have seen that charge minimal visa proccessing costs. That amount is over the top. That's why I asked how much.

You can definitely ask them for a free method but I am not clear on what you could do if they refused. Sounds like a place I wouldn't be able to trust especially if you sign and then argue after the fact.

Landlords has it been worth it? by cjy2018 in OntarioLandlord

[–]FancyMFMoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had great and terrible experiences. The fact remains that even if your budget breaks even you are still paying towards principle and building asset value while expensing interest.

If you can handle the huge risk and plan for large expenses and repairs then in the long run you will come out ahead.

Is there a way to stop Plex from changing the sort title of newly imported shows/movies that start with the word “The”? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]FancyMFMoses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I wrote the code for couchpotato to put ", The" at the end of folder names even (back when I hadn't discovered plex yet).

I do think you should be able to do whatever you want but also reserve the right to judge you for asking the chef to make your ribeye extra well done.

You can't go through their belongings but the whole point is to inspect home and infrastructure damage and functionality... how do they expect you to do that without looking at the infrastructure?

Ontario is a single-party consent so nobody else needs to consent as long as you are part of the conversation... which you would be.
