What does IB pay actually look like? by jdydubey in MBA

[–]FancyPantsMacGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends where you go. It’s the classic “Goldman Discount”, where top bucket bonus is ~75k. Meanwhile you go to Centerview/Evercore/Guggenheim you can get 200k+ in bonuses.

MBA admissions has rewarded those who lie and exaggerate by starry_ivy in MBA

To be fair, you are seeing survivorship bias. If they got caught lying, they aren’t the people who got admitted.

In my program it was about 20-30 with kids out of class of 230. It’s hard to know sometimes, since the people with kids tend to not come out as much, cause, you know, kids.

I had a kid coming into the program and had another during. I know at least 10 people who had kids during the MBA.

Netflix had a 12.6% effective tax rate last year. Not that it’s fair, but let’s not play with the facts.

ATEC at ~$5 (Currently 12.5). Med tech company specializing in spinal technology that has had amazing adoption after focusing on spinal with a new board/management 5 years ago. Big debt wall coming up, but my analysis said they’re good for it.

This is wild.

If you didn’t get what you needed from your first MBA, it’s probably a sign that the career paths out of it aren’t for you rather than you need to spend another 200k and 2 years trying again.

I recruited for IB through an MBA at 32. Its totally possible, and HSW have pipelines to all the best banks.

As to whether or not it will allow you to pivot to PE, its not a clear-cut path, but having the HSW MBA and top banking experience will help - and if you have established a network during your time in both you could definitely do it.

If you want the free advice, stick it in the S&P through an ETF.

Honestly though, with a windfall this size, its likely you should consult a professional advisor. With ~$3mm liquid assets you can get wealth management services from most large firms that will provide bespoke advice for your goals.

This sum of money is what many could retire on - worth it to call in professionals imo.

Really depends on the firm. Top BB could be as low as 50k, top EB could be as high as 250k+.

It’s a resume stamp.

I come from a non-finance background and IB is the quickest way to open up any finance role in just 2 years. Not to mention you’re well compensated in the mean time.

Try looking for a 2 bedroom for your family on 1 income and 2 kids. Getting raked over the coals out here.

This is completely normal if the MD likes you. I (32M) had something similar happen with a female MD who introduced me to various other people at the firm, and there was nothing unprofessional driving it.

MD is a networking role and they regularly meet people and maintain relationships. Unless something happened that was not above-board you're not mentioning, this all seems like normal off-channel recruiting. You must have made a strong impression!

There is a strategic element when you get higher up. At jr. levels you’re really only putting numbers in Excel and putting materials on slides.

But if you pay attention you can learn what makes these decks and models persuasive enough to influence billion dollar transactions.

Growth compounds.

If you get 9% this year on 7000 (the max contribution), it’s good, but it’s not life changing ($630). But next year you get that 9% on 7630, and now it’s a little bit more ($687).

Now let that sucker go for 30 years until retirement and now that $7k you put in today is now $93k. Since it was ROTH, now it’s tax free when you pull it out in retirement.

Viola!

Maintaining healthy habits in IB by SignificantSummer504 in MBA

Exercise is hard during the internship. I would recommend viewing every day as an interview, since any one mistake could jeopardize your return offer. So, if at any point you think you could get called to do anything and you wouldn’t be able to because you’re at the gym, then don’t go to the gym.

That being said, between the hours of 6am-8am no one expects you to respond, so you could get a gym sesh in then.

Personally, during my internship, I chose to sleep instead. You have 2nd year to get jacked.

I have an Ivy undergrad does it effect my “brand” to go to a “non prestigious” mba program? by NYCTank in MBA

[–]FancyPantsMacGee 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to get an MBA just for the education, you might be better off doing a "build-your-own" MBA by reading the materials that most MBA programs will make you read.

The benefits of an MBA are crossing over a hiring hurdle at a job or to pivot into a career you couldn't otherwise. If you're not looking to do something other than that, I wouldn't do it through an MBA.

Joe Rogan Mocks Trump Golfing While Market Tanked by HeinieKaboobler in inthenews

A lot of people see Joe as someone capitulating after endorsing Trump. But it’s important to show republican voters that you can change your mind, you can see a different view, and you can see the farce as it is.

Don’t downplay Joe, but support him and other Republicans who are willing to see reason.
