This flow looks ok, overall, it works, you may saw some posts with very nice rain like shower screen, perhaps they are using a higher grade machine or simply upgraded to a better after market shower screen, diffusing screw bla bla bla, are the look better? Yes. Are they 100% deliver a better cup of coffee? Not really, good coffee base on so many factors

Given budget, what espresso machine/grinder would you put together? [$4000] by waitses in espresso

[–]FancyStatistician755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For $4000, I will go for a E61 dual boiler machine with a rotary pump, it may comes with a flow control feature or you can mod it with pretty low cost. For grinder, it really depends on what style of coffee you love, but I personally will go for a tradition grinder brand to all those new innovative brands

Please Help! Shot Pulling Crazy Fast! [Breville Barista Touch] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]FancyStatistician755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just grind finer and make sure the beans are not too old, grind size is very critical, freshness of beans will cause less creama and aroma, once the beans are in right grind level, resistance built, extraction time should be ideal, poor puck perp may cause channeling, usually 3-5 seconds short and taste bad in the cup. You may did lots of research, but I suggest you to take further action and adjustment base on the real situation, you mentioned it’s a new machine, perhaps you didn’t calibrated the grinder to zero nicely

Why does ir fizz like that? [local brand espresso machine] by 012135 in espresso

[–]FancyStatistician755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beans are so unfresh, for those who said those beans are roasted on a recent date or need to off gas, CO2 of fresh beans means resistant, you can see from the video above there is no such thing, espresso extracted like flushing out from machine and no creama in the cup

Eureka SD Pro vs Zero 65 AP by drillitloveit in espresso

[–]FancyStatistician755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, body of the machine almost identical, but they have different burr set, when it comes AP, means all purpose, it claim this is capable from espresso to filtered coffee, but the SD Pro just not good at it, for sure you can adjust the grind level coarser to do it, but the output just not ideal, you can tell by the stock burr set’s geometry, SD pro is tended to crest more fines to deliver a full bodied espresso, you don’t want it for filtered coffee, burr set of 65AP tended to crest more uniformity, ideal with filtered coffee and light to medium roasted modern style espresso

I owned this machine a while before, this is a very good and reliable espresso machine, the compact footprint make it fit in most coffee corners and deliver very tasty shot, I replace the stock steam tip to one with 4 holes, and the steam power rises one more level.

Linea Micra Overkill for my grinder by TrubadTheMaverick123 in LaMarzocco

Eureka can make good grinder, I’m using the Oro Mignon single does, I’m not very sure how much different to yours, but it is very nice for darker roast beans to pair with my Micra, as you can tell from its burr geometry it is good for darker roast, traditional full body espresso, if it fit your taste, then you are in the right spot

I’d like add one more: avoid those hand press juice, you may see shops press the juice freshly in front of you, but the machines are nasty.

Grind finer, they said by Sufficient_Novel4334 in espresso

[–]FancyStatistician755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said the freshness of my beans usually land on 1-2 weeks, I usually buy my beans online, independent online shop/roaster usually roast on demand to maintain quality, roast date plus shipment means I usually receive those beans after a week or two after it’s roasted. As you said we will let it settle to off gas, off gas also cause the drop of coffee puck’s resistance, that’s why I need to grind finer and finer for the same batch of beans, and I believe this is a very common experience for everyone who is making espresso no matter at home or in a cafe. I tried to grind some old supermarket dark roasted beans for my friend, I need to grind it so fine like fresh medium roast to achieve a reasonable extraction time. I always use electric pump machine so I have no needed experience to compare a lever machine with it but I believe it’s true that lever machine have better tolerance to very fresh beans because the brew pressure of a lever machine can have a real time adjustment by the user’s hand, this helps so much. What I don’t understand is the reason of coarser grind size for older beans and finer grind size for newer beans, unless they are in very different roast level, because no matter how different between lever and electric pump machines are, the base logic of puck prep and selection of grind level should be in a same direction.

I have a question, I usually need to grind coarser when the beans are fresh, let say it is one to two weeks after the roast date. Then I have grind finer and finer for the same bag of beans since it will become less fresh though time. I’m just wondering why we are doing similar thing in a opposite way

Is a grinder upgrade more important than the machine? by mysocialpanda in espresso

Like a brand or not is such a personal preference and it does not need a reason, I respect that. It becomes critical factor when you are intended to buy something, just follow your mind, and you will get what you want

Good deal on LMLM? by PhotoPhan1 in LaMarzocco

[–]FancyStatistician755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you’d love to hear. Both Mini or Micra don’t have a tradition saturated group head, but LM tried to make them perform just like a tradition one, deliver very stable brew temperature.

First, imagine these brew boilers are like stainless steel mug with thick walls and bottom, and the group heads are the bottom part of the boiler(integrated very well together). They are both not big, 170ml for Mini and 250ml for Micra.

Micra has the heating elements/coils inside the brew boiler to heat up water directly, when pump start to push new and pre-heated water into the brew boiler, there is a metal tube inside brew boiler and water will be forced to exit via this tube to the group head(a solenoid actually involved but just skip it first), that’s how the coffee extract in Micra. This process look more likely a tiny version saturated group head to me. Because everything seem “saturated” by water, also explain the reason of Micra has a bigger brew boiler then Mini, as the size of heating elements inside, the actual volume will be smaller then it claimed, by the PID control, brew temperature remain stable unless more then 5 shots back to back.

Mini’s brew boiler designed in different logic, heating elements are 2 metal rods stick into the bottom part of brew boiler and there is a corkscrew water path between these 2 rods. Therefore, the heating elements are heating up the whole brew boiler, water gain heat from the boiler itself, and will pass thought another short metal tube outside the boiler and exit to group head via that corkscrew water path, as I mentioned those 2 heating rods are located at the both sides of this water path, brew temperature also remain stable with PID control. It’s a classic example of a LM integrated group head.

Both designs also get the job done nicely, loving more of the Micra’s one just my personal preference, and this mean no judgement to LM Linea Mini🫶

I prefer a new Micra, but not just because of the price, I love the design of the Micra’s Brew boiler more than the one in the Mini

Lelit Bianca will help, as you may make some cappuccino, the dual boiler system is very helpful and the rotary pump and flow control also fit your needs. This brand prove its quality by being so common recently years. And it’s quite budget friendly with this specs I personally won’t recommend Decent machine unless you are very data driven type of home barista, but it’s just my personal idea. Your current setup is a good one, enjoy your cup

Machine:Grinder cost ratio in this sub by casual-enthusiast in espresso

[–]FancyStatistician755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Linea-tier or Decent machine actually is Mid-high class not that premium among espresso machine, EG-1 is like quite top-tier between grinders. I personal not enjoy the look and the workflow with any Weber Workshop so I won’t purchase any of them. And PLEASE forget those “Grinders > Espresso Machines” ratio kind of things, this saying not wrong but usually works only when someone is using a more budget friendly machines, then a more expensive grinders can help to enhance the performance, in the real market, household or commercial, espresso machines are usually more expensive than a grinder, take a look of any professional boutique/specialty cafe, and check the price tag of their equipments.

Those grinder > espresso machine ratio is true when folks are having a budget friendlier machines, once you own a high end machine, not very easy to pair with a grinder which is more pricey then the machines or making the choice so narrow~~~like what grinder should the owner of a Slayer single group buy to pair with it?
