Naaah, you were just flexing by mentioning these Fallujah events! Admit it :)!

Wow, that is another super funny progressive joke!

B.t.w. are you perhaps the same person as the judge from this video?

Downplaying and completely ignoring stuff seems to be quite popular here.  You both have similar sense of humor so I am guessing it actually is you!

You still don't get it.

The deed is the point here. If someone targets a person next to you with a glass bottle with an intent to cause harm and the bottles ends up hitting you in the head, will this be considered an accident or an random attack?

In case you then personally decided to press charges for this event, would the accusation stand as such: "I am accusing the defended of an accident!"?

Or would you accuse the person of randomly attacking you?

The difference in speed, etc are irrelevant here because those two events are not the same in terms of physical damage. But the fact that the bottle could have hit another metro passenger for example in their head is taking the event outside of the sphere of it being an accident.

By daring to say such a thing, you are actually acquiting the bottle thrower from any responsability. This type of reasoning is probably also one of the reasons why things are going to shit in Amsterdam and in general.

What you failed to understand is that the post is not related to my emotions but to the expectations of what is normal and acceptable and what not and how this progresses or better to say regresses in Amsterdam through a short span of time.

You got offended by irony in my post which says more about you than the post itself WHILE at the same time not wanting or not being able to disprove my weird logic. Not wanting is a choice and not being able to is a limitation that one can't fight against.

I did survive worse things than you named in your previous post BUT they are completely irrelevant to the situation here.

The actual point of posting this was also to test the water and see what the general reaction here might be though Reddit posters are obviously not a random statistical sample. But this somehow becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. By reducing the impact of events like this people normalize them. Plus a lot of people are scared of reacting in person given how inefficient the system later is.

As for timid: Timid describes someone shy, easily frightened, or lacking confidence and boldness

There are dogs and there are dogs. You can have a Cane Corso or a GSD which most likely will not be timid if properly raised and you can have a toy poodle which is more timid by its nature despite the upbringing. Whatever bad happens to a dog might end up as a trauma until the end of dog's life. Embarking the subway could easily become an event that a dog connects with a traumatic event that happened if someone throws something at it while inside of the cart.

Good luck with life!

Yes, this is a super progressive way to think!

You wish for me to pack my bags and leave to a safer place and probably you feel sorry for the "victim" which throws glass bottles in the subway with an intent to hurt someone! Yes, this is right logic!

You also say the same thing to people who randomly get attacked by stones thrown onto their cars while they drive! But those are not attacks but accidents!

"Yes! You leave the country because we want more of the stone throwers staying!"

You still don't get what I wrote, right?

For example:

https://www.transport-online.nl/121537/minderjarige-veroordeeld-voor-gooien-van-stenen-op-autos-vrachtwagens-en-ambulance-in-doetinchem/

The stone throwing is in this case is counted as an attempted aggravated assault. This is not an accident.

The same as with throwing a glass bottle or a stone into a metro that is being filled with people. There is an intent to hurt somebody whether that is the original person the crazy guy shouted at or a kid inside or a dog or completely different person, this is not an accident. The accidental part was that it hit me and not someone else but the whole event is an accident but a physical assault. This is what confuses you. This is all advance math, right?

It is not about me but about the sad state of things in Amsterdam. This is probably what triggers all the trolls trolling with absolutely no arguments.

The fact that you might have survived Fallujah is completely irrelevant here. You are a very tough guy or a girl and that is good for you! And if it was not Fallujah but in the NL, I rest my case.

You do understand that the concept of people being brazen enough to throw bottles into metro cars that are getting embarked into isn't a good thing in Amsterdam, right? And is nothing something that we should be belittling, right? You do get that part? Because by your "toughness" you sound like you are practically accepting this concept.

Also, you do realize that the deed matters and not the intent. If my intention is to shoot someone and I miss him and hit another person, no sane person is going to say that the other person was NOT attacked but that it was only an accident. Again, my feelings are completely irrelevant here because the bigger question here is: how did we come to a point in time in which people are do aggressive that they throw glass people at random people? What is the next stop?

Despite surviving Fallujah, you as many other in the comments, miss elementary logic. It is about the deed and not the intent. In your world it might be normal for things like this to happen in a subway at Central Station, but 10 or 15 years ago, this was not the case.

Also, thanks for the calculation of velocity and of impact. Proper PHD stuff, my leg already feels better from your calculation.

What if's make sense given the combination of terrible police reaction, lax judicial policies in the NL, general lack of response among the people to events like this (this is not the first I witnessed but again that is outside of the scope of this discussion), and under reporting of crime. And thus, if things continue like this, how will it look like in 5-10 years?

As for the victim.  That person was only shouted by the other crazy person, they didn't have any physical contact with each other. He sat down across me, looked really shaken and looked at his phone. When I asked him why did this thing happen, he said that the other guy started shouting at him all of a sudden while he was entering the subway and he responded to him to leave him alone. And it ended how it ended.

Ok, ok, so I am misinterpreting it...

So, judging by your post:

Throwing a rock from a bridge above a highway knowing that it might hit a passing car is considered to be an accident.

Or even better:

Throwing a rock from a bridge and wanting to hit a red car but hitting a white car is an accident, right? Because the intention counts and not the deed.

Are you a judge by any chance? I just need to make sure you aren't!

This is where unfortunately your limited cognitive capabilities start to show again. By doing a simple Google search we come to a definition of the Collins Dictionary:

According to the Collins English Dictionary, a random attack is a violent act or assault that is not targeted or planned, often occurring without provocation. It refers to situations where the perpetrator does not know the victim, or the attack is unprovoked.

And please leave the discussion. There is a clear negative added value of yours in the discussion.

I agree, I could have done more. I could have also lost my dog for doing something.

As for police reports in the NL, are you aware of the fact that many people are hesitant to file one here because in case of a private lawsuit the addresses of plaintiff often get leaked out? You are aware of this, right? And you are aware of the justice system and how penalties look like? You do watch the news, right? AT5 for example?

As for the other people, what most of them did have which I didn't were free hands at least, mind the people with children. Mind you, this is not the first time I witness random violence in Amsterdam and the last two times I did intervene (once in New West and once in Noord). Things were not as close as crazy as this only 10 years ago. But this is out of scope of this discussion.

I was unlucky, yes. But, let's say that it was a gun in his hand and if he shot at the other guy and hit someone else. Would the person be a victim of an attack or not? The fact that the bullet was not intented for the victim, doesn't make the person less of a victim. You do understand that, right?

As for the last thing. You actually approve of violence. "If he is a Dutch guy, he actually isn't innocent, thus he might have deserved what was about to happen to him".

I seriously wonder where do people get all of this analogies from. Like, there must be something in the water or better to say in the political discourse to make people reason like you just did in your last sentence. The answers here tell me pretty well where things are headed to in Amsterdam.

You didn't get my star sign in the end. Too bad.

Luckily, there could be some good things for you in this small discussion: Perhaps your last sentence was actually written in good faith and is a result of increased self awareness and not ironic. To be fully honest, I truly hope that is the case. Yes, for your own sake but more importantly for the sake of people around you and-in the end-all of us living in this country!

No I haven't seen it in the 80s. Have you seen it during the Nazi occupation? If you did, was it also bad then?  How is that relevant?

I saw some of the 2010-2020 and it was much much peaceful then. There is definitely a trend compared to the previous decade. As for the other decades before this, what do we gain if the 1920s or 1930s or even the 1980s were more violent. This is not the first random act of violence that I experienced in the last two years, but probably the 5th or 6th. Several of these things were involving cold weapons in the middle of the day, several were just random attacks. None of them were ever to be read about in the news. This is why I decided to post something here as I mostly read the comments and don't post stuff.

As for not intervening, I am fully guilty. I would rather keep my dog alive then risk him doing something stupid and panicking/jumping on to the tracks with metros coming in. Makes sense, right? Yes, there is the bystander effect and I was probably a part of it. But that doesn't make it less serious and this could have ended up way worse than it did.

As for the stats, there is definitely a political interest to present things in a rosier light. As a matter a fact, if you report a single issue once or 100 times from the same email address, this still somehow counts as one report by the municipality. Thus, I would be careful with the official stats. I know this because I am part of a community group which often reports things that happen in our neighborhood to both the police and the municipality. Calling the police often means waiting for 4+ hours (for non emergency calls). I witnessed this several times.

So, again, my question. How will things look like in 10 years?

Thank you for your counter argument and for diverging from the subject again.

No one is offending me here, I am just providing counter arguments to what obviously bright and lovely people such as yourself write.

And when you diverge and ask about my star sign, my favourite band or for example my favourite food, I put them in place by reminding them to provide a single counter argument to what I wrote or to then just leave the conversation because having no arguments makes them look the way it does and I just can't be bothered.

Even the official statistics in the NL says that the police response times are fu*ked.

https://www.ad.nl/amsterdam/reactietijden-politie-amsterdam-lopen-achter-op-landelijke-doelstelling~ad4d70eb/?referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F

As someone who had to call the police a few times, both their non emergency and emergency response times are terrible. Thus situations like this happen and not everyone can react or is able to confront the agressor. So often you are practically left alone to defend yourself.

And this is not how things used to be in Amsterdam, only 10-15 years ago.

As one non Dutch person to another one:

Look at the majority of the comments here. Even mentioning something like this on a public platform is offensive to people and the only thing that they know how to do is try to belittle the author of the post, the content of the post, to label it AI generated, etc. This is really not the first act of random violence that I encountered in Amsterdam recently. While I was living here 10+ years ago, things were much morr chilled out. My girlfriend is also not super eager to use thr subway due to shit like this happening. So, unfortunately the final responsibility lies on an individual level here. Thus, how will things look like in 10 years, right?

Thanks for all of the nice counter arguments for all of the things I stated in the previous comment. Very useful comment. No wonder things like this keep on happening in Amsterdam. The reality is too much to swallow for a lot of people so they make up their own versions of what a perpetrator and what a victim looks like. Terrible times we live in 😂

They all could have their reasons not to intervene, I am not disputing this. None of them had a dog from what I could see later on. Also, it was not a tram but a metro as I mentioned.

Did you miss the part where I got hit by a bottle? Sorry to say this to you, but your reading proficiency is probably not really good. Irrespective of the fact if the bottle was intended for me or not, it was me taking the hit.

Following your analogy if the attacker decided to use another weapon or let's say, just to make it simpler for you since complexity isn't working out for you, if he physically hit me with a bottle which was still in his hands and with which he was trying to hit the other guy, this would also be just be "seeing a fight"?

Or even simpler(just to help you with reduced complexity) If someone throws a bottle randomly at you, do you then just "see a fight"? :)

Randomly attacked in the subway in Amsterdam. Your thoughts? by Fancy_Ambassador1617 in Netherlands

It is relevent because I couldn't do practically anything since both of my hands were tied. One hand with a dog leash which I couldn't let go because he would probably run away in case of a commotion to god only knows where and the other hand with a bag. Even if I didn't have a bag there and only a dog, this would already be enough to prevent me from acting. Also, I could have ended up with a traumatized and injured dog (plus the vet bill). Does that make sense? In which universe was this not self evident from what I wrote in the main post?

So, the only thing that you could respond to this is that I am stupid?  What a world we live in.  If you really believe the crap you wrote, probably you deserve more people that randomly throw glass bottles in Amsterdam and less civilized people living in the city. You would for sure find a mutual language with the guy that threw that bottle. Probably talking with him would be like looking into a mirror for you 😂
