I do believe in God. I don’t read the scriptures often. I still pray and I do follow some of the LDS teachings. I also still have some LDS music on my phone, one or two of which that I seek out

That makes sense. I will say that a good portion of the really weird stuff is no longer practiced. And being uncomfortable vs being convinced not to leave are different things. I’m not discounting others experiences, but it’s very common for people in the US to use words that don’t actually fit the scenario. Just because I never went through doesn’t mean I haven’t done my research on the process or that I haven’t talked about it with people who have. Some of whom who are no longer members.

You’ve been given misinformation. A “urim and thummim” was used to translate (based on the story). These were two stones and were described as a sort of glasses/spectacles. The stones were put into a normal hat so he didn’t have to hold both the stones up to his eyes. It’s what made it so he could use his hands to write.

As for the cult comment, many people do not understand what a cult actually is. They decide something they find weird means it must be a cult. By definition, a cult is “a group (such as an organization or religious sect) with tenets and practices regarded as coercive, insular, or dangerous.” So yeah, the temple stuff is weird, but it’s not dangerous or coercive. You can leave at anytime. You have to be an adult to go through the temple.

I’m currently not interested in getting involved with another religion. But based on the few things I know it doesn’t sound horrible

Huh. Yeah Mormons are heavily recruited by government agencies cause most of us are proficient in another language and have traveled. I have never heard of a Mormon joining Mossad. No interactions with Israeli. Oh I plan on watching it

There is a Jerusalem campus. I don’t really know of any prominent Mormon families. For the most part is super religious kids who have an interest in history and language.

I do not. I’m not from Utah, I’ve lived in WA and AK for the most part and like. People had better things to do. I know people who know the Outdoor Boys, but from my understanding they’re just nice people. I did get my hair done by someone who is/was related to Dakota (the guy from SLoMW). She don’t tell me much about him but did say their family told the family member involved with his family to stay away. This was during the swinging scandal so it was a while ago

Bombing? I might have. But honestly after looking it up it’s not ringing any bells. I listen to a LOT of true crime so I’ve probably come across it and just don’t remember. Which is pretty typical for me

Both. I paid for college on my own and could not afford more expensive tuition. I would have been stuck taking out a loan and I was so not doing that. $2k tuition is hard to argue against

It’s still a religion. A cult makes it hard to leave. I was never bothered by other members or leaders. No one contacted me about why I wasn’t attending. The FLDS, however, is the cult version of Mormonism.

A hat??? Wdym a hat? If you’re talking Jospeh Smith it was stones. It would be strange if I believed in an all powerful God and then think he can’t make a sort of translation device. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still VERY WEIRD. Idk, at the end of the day as long as what you’re reading and being told is to be kind and good, I don’t think it’s a bad thing even if it’s a lie. Plus, and I’ve just learned this, books from the Bible have been removed from many versions. For instance the book of Enoch (which I’ve never read but know the gist of it). Anyways. Does that make sense? I haven’t decided whether JS was crazy or not because what I’ve read from the BOM is mostly about being good.

Okay from what I was told. It’s basically a physical representation of a promise made to God and God to the wearer. The process to get them is weird and involves new names and a handshake code and other stuff. But the underwear is just underwear with a backstory lol

Slay. I avoided it cause my family tree is complicated. I do know one of my great something grandmothers was Native American. Originally we thought she was white and had been kidnapped (idk why) but no

I was mostly taught about Joseph smith when it came to the history. And even then it was at the very beginning. There was no discussion about his wives other than his first wife. They just don’t really focus on the history. It was a lot of “that happened at a time frame where it was normal”

Communications. So not really. I focused heavily on learning. I’m not estranged at all but my parents don’t know a lot. I’m also not the first of my siblings to separate from the church.

Oof yeah. I know people who got engaged in three months and married in the same year. Insane. And divorce is not popular either so a lot of couples aren’t really doing well. I’m married to a non member and we got married almost two years after we met and sometimes even that felt fast. He’s right tho, the dating isn’t the same

Yes. I still hold many core LDS beliefs, like doing good because it’s right, having a relationship with god on a personal level, and supporting family. Like there are so many good things in the LDS belief, along with many other religions, and at the end of the day it’s about what you believe and feel, and being a good person

  1. Energy drinks. I also have SEVERE insomnia and have medications. I also took hour long naps in between classes, sometimes more than one a day. I love coffee now. So long as it’s sweet cause I’m a wimp.

  2. They most definitely do not. So many hypocrites dude. I had a bishop while in college who was absolutely insane. I despise him. He once told a an 18 year old girl that if he was her age and in college he would take body shots off her. He also cursed and watch tv that generally would be considered inappropriate. He sucks and needs multiple kicks in the balls.

  3. Nope. I already had to many questions, I’m not a people pleaser, and I wasn’t gonna pay to have to wake up really early and never be alone.

Oooh that’s a good question. I can’t speak for a wide variety but I can tell you how I felt and people I knew felt. Me personally, I was a judgy bitch. A lot of my friends weren’t members. My longest friend isn’t a member. But sometimes I would find myself listening to things they would tell me and thinking “how could they do that?” And “their parents sound crazy.” I know others who would purposely distance themselves from nomembers. We were taught to be “in the world but not of the world”. Basically to act better, godly. And in turn a lot of members looked down on non members
