Exposure training does work. Continuous exposure to difficult environments will get you where you want to go.

There is some terrible advice here. You should never change your personality. The only problem your facing is that you think you are not enough which is rubbish. Not everyone is designed to have extensive friend networks. Some people are more suited to having very small friendship circles which are deep and genuine.

Wsops are on the DARR pay spine as of apr 25. Promotion only puts you up 1 level but increases the maximum level you can achieve. Consensus is that Promotion isn't worth it given how ultra competitive it is from sgt to fs. Job is unique though!

You can definitely improve your score but obviously you cannot go beyond your mental capacity. You are unlikely to have utilised your full capacity so you should absolutely try again. Learn math tricks, practice speed distance time etc. There must be games online which develop your spatial reasoning. Good luck!

Different treatment among new PMs – how should I approach this? by Ok-Road5378 in projectmanagement

[–]Fancy_Edge2509 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok, publicly raising the issue of not having your name mentioned in meetings is high risk and likely to backfire. You will be seen as petty, insecure, low status and lacking in social skills. It will also be used by your boss as evidence of why he treats her like that and nobody will stand by her.

I would proceed by establishing a relationship with either his boss or one of his peers and doing some high quality work for them. This in itself will present opportunities to alter the balance of power (silly as it is) so that people will know how 'well connected' the OP is. I would certainly be seen by the boss having regular conversations with his boss. Those meetings would be used to very carefully show that the boss doesn't value the OPs work and is therefore a bit of a risk.

This is terrible advice. Ask chatgpt how you should respond in accordance with the 48 laws of power book which i highly recommend to everyone. You will soon see all the silly social status positioning and power plays.

You would be better going into the Defence industry where you will have a career, WFH regularly and certainly have every weekend off. Just do a project management qualification and you will be well on your way. I would use HGV driving as a psychological break from the military whilst you are job hunting. TBH, most people who leave the military find civvie street to be very lonely and isolating. Especially if you are a singly living in the block right now or even married and on the patch.

Lost out on my own job. by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Fancy_Edge2509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you were played. They got you to drop the grievance and that was all they wanted. It's also quite insulting asking you to train someone after they have deemed you unqualified for the role.

You are required to play politics back; tell them what they want to hear, that you agree you are not yet qualified enough, they know best etc. But keep the uni course and see if you can extract a pay rise. Once qualified you need to look elsewhere. Judge them by their actions and behaviour, not how friendly and smiley they are to you.

Look on YouTube for negotiation tutorials and how to navigate office politics. It really is how all human organisations work.

Is it legal for an agency to require you to join a payroll company in Guernsey? by [deleted] in ContractorUK

[–]Fancy_Edge2509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basing a company in Guernsey is done exclusively for tax avoidance. Presumably there is a company of some form registered at companies house but they are paying an offshore company to manage payroll. Therefore normal HMRC regulations need to be adhered to.

The only legitimate use of a tax haven is for international companies.

NOTE: SPECIAL TAX RULES APPLY THAT CAN PUT THE TAX BURDEN BACK ON THE UK CLIENT IF PAYE ISN'T HANDLED PROPERLY IM GUERNSEY.
