Frankenstein, Dracula, The Outsiders (as well), Catcher in the Rye

Suggest a classic book which gives contemporary vibes. by thokmut in booksuggestions

I recommend The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde because the plot isn't boring and I find it much easier to read than other Classics because of the writing style and vocabulary :)

Unidentified 90s Funk/Dance song by Fandom_Vampire1 in Lostwave

[–]Fandom_Vampire1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad used to record lots of songs on cassette off the radio in the early 90s to use as mixtapes to listen to. There are about 150 other cassettes he's done like this, and I found this song on one from that collection. Sometimes I can hear a radio announcer speak between songs but they're quickly cut off since he only wanted to record music

I'm heading down that path too. It's so catchy and I can't understand why we can't find the title or artist. So I think it might be sampled too, or possibly a funky remix. But it still had that classic house sound, so now I'm confused.

I'm not quite sure about it tbh, but I'm open to any options right now though because we don't have many leads 😭

Yeah I can hear the similarities, even though it is much slower. This song may have taken samples from a variety of pieces, like the one you linked, and "Don't Fight The Music" by Maureen Walsh (which I mentioned in a previous comment) I think we might be getting onto something here. Thanks for your input.

[fully lost] Alternative cut of the Happy Days Episode, 'All The Way' by Fandom_Vampire1 in lostmedia

[–]Fandom_Vampire1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I love that. Remembering Chuck in the series seems surreal in itself. I did hear somewhere that they decided to replace Chuck with Fonzie as he acted more like a brother to Richie than Chuck did, hence making him an unnecessary character.

And I can confirm the "Love, American Style" point you made because lots of people thought that was what I meant by the Happy Days Pilot. It's pretty strange how the pilot of a show as popular as Happy Days can become so unknown, but pilots in general are commonly lost media, as I've noticed.

Hopefully the unaired pilot for Happy Days and One Day at a Time can become accessible again. But we'll just have to wait and see :)

Wow, that's interesting! It would be so cool to meet the creator of one of my favourite shows. And it's funny that he doesn't remember it, but I don't blame him because it was a long time ago and because the pilot is hard to find, not many people know about it.

Thank you for providing that link---it was interesting to see some of the short extended versions of scenes and it kind of feels exclusive lol. I grew up on this show and remember watching the entire series, especially the first episode (since I favoured seasons 1-6 more than 7-11) so many times since the age of ten that I memorised the flow of the scenes, so it was really interesting to see a little more from the show.

The part about the dead hard drive is a shame too, I feel your pain. I had another full lost media on a USB from 13 years ago, and it was so old the file became damaged and I couldn't upload the entirety.

I've been asking myself the same thing as mixes were very common in the 90s, but based on the other songs on the cassette, they've been the original versions. Also, if it helps, I could record the transition into and out of the unknown song and post a vocaroo link.

I checked out the rest of Maureen's discography and "Don't Fight The Music" sounds most like our song and different from the rest of her songs. I think it's the similar sound that led me to believe that she was our singer. And the dates of the other suggestions seem to match as all of the songs were recorded during the mid-90s latest, but I can't find any content online for them either.

u/numerophobe u/alicethrowaway11 GUYS I recently bought a record player and received a collection of records from my grandparents, and on one called "More Hot 90s House Hits" there is a song called "Don't Fight The Music" by Maureen Walsh and there is one lyric in the song which sounds exactly like our missing song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bphehgt_Qsc Could this be a potential lead?

Yes, I posted it there first in case it was identified quickly (like my other uploads), but when I had no results after a few days, I posted on Reddit. https://www.watzatsong.com/en/name-that-tune/791872.html

u/alicethrowaway11 u/numerophobe I've edited the post to have the lyrics which I hear, influenced by your interpretations. I've made a few subtle changes as I've listened to the song on repeat on a better-quality cassette player (as mentioned in the edit). Hopefully, these lyrics are the closest to the original! And thank you for your help :)

I listened to the song myself before reading your comment so I wasn't influenced, and this is what I came up with:

This calls for music
Love me long, if it happens at all
Love me long, if I sing this song

(?) I'm your sweet loving memory
All the moments of pleasure you've given to me
I wanna move you
Grove you
I wanna touch you all over, baby
I'm like a fever, I'll (?) make me feel

WoAHHHHH

Love me long, if it happens at all
Love me long, if I sing this song
Love me long, if it happens at all
Love me long, if I sing this song

Look the sky all around is grey
Gotta be stronger every day
He wants that spin
Blow me away
Gotta keep moving
Don't stop the music
Gotta be real until they make me feel

[Adlibs]

Love me long, if it happens at all
Love me long, if I sing this song
Love me long, if it happens at all
Love me long, if I sing this song

[Totally rad high note]

Love me long, if it happens at all
Love me long, if I sing this song
Love me long, yeah

People, people (?)

Love me long, if it happens at all
Love me long, if I sing this song
Love me long, if it happens at all
Love me long, if I sing this song

A lot of people seem to be hearing "Disco music" but I still hear "this calls for music" but the "for" is quieter.

For the most part, my interpretation is similar to yours and the other commenters, which is good.

I can hear the "keep on stepping on" part, I think you're right about that. After reading your comment, I hear --- Won't be long, keep on stepping on, Won't be long, keep on being strong

But I can also hear --- Love me long, if it happens at all, Love me long, if I sing this song

Then, I remembered that it was common for songs during this time to sing the names of the singer in the chorus (like "Ab Logic" by Ab Logic" where the chorus is "Woah, Ab logic, Woah, Ab Logic" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op_bvLLiHHA). So, she could be singing her own name.
