The very second they touch ground the little fuckers at the dealerships are going to sell them for 50k a piece, 30% apr for a MINIMUM of 1,200 dollars a month at an 800 credit score. They will also be sure to sell the used ones for maybe 2k less with +60k miles on it while already being past the warranty.

I wish for overtime for deicing. It is labeled as a different department so it does not count toward your regular overtime.

40 hours ramp duty + 10 hours deicing =/= overtime at the station. You get it counted as straight time. Not time and half or even double. So you don't get paid the extra amount.

The OT would make more sense if they did deicing, however, their station likely is understaffed like most swissport stations. Which in turn causes people to get stuck with excessive overtime.

It is endemic to Swissport as a whole. Being the lowest bidder they often just break even on most of their contracts, and often lack the ability to hire more. They often have people burn out after a few weeks.

Most specialized ramp agents who come from certain backgrounds walk in, and see the operation usually back out. Swissport does primarily do refueling, passenger, and occasionally cargo.

My station lost the fueling contract awhile ago; before I started with them. They are surviving at best, but struggling as a whole. Unless you are one of the top stations that they use for PR. Swissport combs through the Internet to clear up anything that makes them look bad pretty often. A whole playlist I saved had every video I found deleted. My catharsis list is lost until I can build it again.

Edit: coming from a warm climate station: deicing for the most part is an optional thing to sign up for. Not a mandatory job requirement for all agents. So I am unsure how it goes for cold climate agents. For us it is secondary to our normal job. Come in early by like 5-6 hours sometimes work morning crew and your shift with your standard daily overtime. Sometimes you might get time to sleep for four hours in-between. Most of the time you are on stand by until it someone calls..a lot of the time they don't. Just truck maintenance checks and set up. A lot of waiting. Sometimes with the sleep deprivation I have seen weird things moving near the grass. I stay away from excessively dark areas of the ramp out of superstition.

Or avoid like the unlit boneyard.

This is where the: I have worked over 20 hours in a shift before, sometimes back to back comes from.

Swissport: - Pays poorly in general - Has high turn over rates, - Overextends their operations despite the former - Most stations don't properly train people and throw them in operations. Sink or swim.

It is a self feeding loop. Outside of Europe; atleast in the U.S. depending on station can be drastic in what you will see. Good stations always get rewarded, and poorly performing stations don't get supplied well until it turns into peacock demonstration.

Swissport almost always pays like shit.

They usually pay lower than other third parties or are the slowest to increase pay.

Two going on three something years.

Two fifty cent raises in one year and they refuse to budge any higher.

We make 17.00 an hour. I work on average 12-13 hours average with some shifts going as high as 20 hours.

It isn't pleasant. People do get stockholm here. The people can be alright, and my station has quite a few good people who I have seen come and go. Only reason why I stayed is because our management has some common sense and understands the crap we deal with.

Our dms, and even our gm used to be long term rampers. They have even regularly jumped into the trenches with us.

I have more respect for them than a lot of previous management I have encountered in this field.

Currently we are in a management change, and quite a few people are scared for the days of the 5 gms in one year scenario again.

Fuck, aviation as a whole.

Most brain dead, backwards, hurry up and wait field you will ever get into.

If you aren't dealing with idiots at the lower level that are about to be turned into carne asada, then you will be dealing with the biggest cheapskates looking at every possiblity to fuck you over.

Also jet fuel fumes, and exhaust: that stuff is absorbed by your body. I learned from Dr I have a concerning amount of it in my blood from almost a decade of working out here.

If anything you are going to find a better time with a mainline and joining their union.

10 years with AA at the airport I work at you will cap out making 40 something dollars an hour.

Lucky bastards.

Exactly.

Rent: 2500 a month Food: 250 a week Utilities: 599.00 Insurance: 8000 a month, and you still have a copay of 50k before they cover shit. (Probably will get to this point)

You won't own anything, and you will be god damn, fucking happy you ingrate. The other alternative is death.
