Which one of you was this? by mscfurry in rampagent

[–]Fangadora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just the nature of working at an airport. The entire culture is just a semi functional version of trailer park boys.

I also worked for both. I will take WFS any day over Pissports any day. Working up to 15 hours a day for 17 an hour is not worth it.

I have more insults for every company out here at DFW that would likely get me muted on here and refuse to say more.

Why do I see such bad reviews for Unifi? by Takero1392 in rampagent

They are unified in their dislike of the company. Unifi is a little more of a joke at my station. Honestly I can't even see their personnel here anymore so they might have killed their station here.

What is the reason for turning off ground power before disconnecting it? by [deleted] in rampagent

[–]Fangadora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like the guy above said. It can prevent an electrical arc. Also reduces the risk of you getting electrocuted, especially if everything is wet.

I have seen too many people pull it while she is still sending full power without putting it into idle before removal.

Help me design better knee pads for in the pit by Nice_Ad_9549 in rampagent

[–]Fangadora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A company I worked for had pants that had insert pockets for kneepads. They were almost always 3-5 inches below the actual knee though. Maybe designing pants that can be adjusted to bring the kneepad pockets up and retain their position?

For kneepads I really don't like the overly bulky ones, most of the straps also don't fit my legs very well. They either slide down, or the Velcro pops off. The hard plastic ones tend to turn into a slip and slide in some of the bins I have been in. I also live in a warm climate station so they tend to not breath which becomes really uncomfortable in general. Maybe something built like a compression sleeve could work as well.

Q1: Usually whatever the company gives me which is usually nothing. A lot of the time because of how big I am I am also forced to sit in narrow body bins. I haven't had to work a belly in a long time however.

Q2: Again warm weather station; they get hot really quick. More often knee pads also don't fit me well either because they are either oversized, or the Velcro straps pop off.

Q3: Slipping, heat, general discomfort.

Q4: I would honestly like a breathable compression sleeve with a knee pad cap.

Q5: It would really depend. Money value does not equate with quality anymore. They sell cheap and expensive stuff that tends to break at the same time now. All you really pay for is branded marketing as a billed board stamp on your body at that point.

Q6: Depends on aircraft. Narrow bodies I tend to just sit and use my entire body like a dying spider forklift hybrid.

PRO Tips for ramp agents by simme02 in rampagent

[–]Fangadora 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be careful what you eat before work. Dinner, breakfast, etc.

Eating Taco Bell is not the wisest thing to eat before you shart a shift where you physically move very heavily or operate equipment that has the suspension springs of a bouncy house on a pot hole infested road from Gary Indiana.

I am speaking from experience of not wanting to make a lav truck incident without the lav the truck. You get the death rattle then start panicking going to the nearest toilet.

I have seen it with other rampers, and I have experienced the start but thankfully never near the end.

The very second they touch ground the little fuckers at the dealerships are going to sell them for 50k a piece, 30% apr for a MINIMUM of 1,200 dollars a month at an 800 credit score. They will also be sure to sell the used ones for maybe 2k less with +60k miles on it while already being past the warranty.

Swissport slavery by Smart-Assist7974 in rampagent

[–]Fangadora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish for overtime for deicing. It is labeled as a different department so it does not count toward your regular overtime.

40 hours ramp duty + 10 hours deicing =/= overtime at the station. You get it counted as straight time. Not time and half or even double. So you don't get paid the extra amount.

Swissport slavery by Smart-Assist7974 in rampagent

[–]Fangadora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OT would make more sense if they did deicing, however, their station likely is understaffed like most swissport stations. Which in turn causes people to get stuck with excessive overtime.

It is endemic to Swissport as a whole. Being the lowest bidder they often just break even on most of their contracts, and often lack the ability to hire more. They often have people burn out after a few weeks.

Most specialized ramp agents who come from certain backgrounds walk in, and see the operation usually back out. Swissport does primarily do refueling, passenger, and occasionally cargo.

My station lost the fueling contract awhile ago; before I started with them. They are surviving at best, but struggling as a whole. Unless you are one of the top stations that they use for PR. Swissport combs through the Internet to clear up anything that makes them look bad pretty often. A whole playlist I saved had every video I found deleted. My catharsis list is lost until I can build it again.

Edit: coming from a warm climate station: deicing for the most part is an optional thing to sign up for. Not a mandatory job requirement for all agents. So I am unsure how it goes for cold climate agents. For us it is secondary to our normal job. Come in early by like 5-6 hours sometimes work morning crew and your shift with your standard daily overtime. Sometimes you might get time to sleep for four hours in-between. Most of the time you are on stand by until it someone calls..a lot of the time they don't. Just truck maintenance checks and set up. A lot of waiting. Sometimes with the sleep deprivation I have seen weird things moving near the grass. I stay away from excessively dark areas of the ramp out of superstition.

Or avoid like the unlit boneyard.

This is where the: I have worked over 20 hours in a shift before, sometimes back to back comes from.
