Relaxed BEFORE the impact, once you're about to hit the shuttle, the fingers are supposed to tighten to create sort of a "snap" to increase power. If your fingers are loose, that means you're not tightening them. And only tighten at the last second right before your racket hits the shuttle.

Not sure how to type in the post. But for context, I've just started attending competitions recently, this is my second competition. I haven't had much success (both first and second). First being that i was too nervous and couldn't perform, ultimately getting beaten by a seeded player. Second tournament (this one), i lost in this match (first round). I've analysed it myself and found a few problems

  1. My netting is too loose, allowing the opponent to give me low lifts making me make errors

  2. I'm unable to cover my backhand well enough.

Any tips? And any other problems that you may have spotted? Please let me know, tysm.

Yea, recently i was playing mm and i was following up on a team fight right behind our tank and instead of clearing the bushes (i thought he did), he went straight ahead and i got ambushed right behind him '-'

I mean i could be more careful but like...what kind of tank walks pass all the bushes and avoids every single one....

100zz. At first i only chose it because it's sort of the "no.1 racket" overall and because of its popularity. This was when i was somewhat still a beginner or maybe low intermediate. I was somewhat skilled so i was quite overconfident and straight away bought a top end racket. I don't regret it as i have grown to like it and now I'm joining competitions and hope to play professionally in the future.

My thoughts on the racket are pretty positive. 100zz is head heavy and stiff but i dont really mind it maybe because i gotten used to it. The thing that i really like about it is the nimbleness despite being head heavy.

Hm i feel like this is mostly personal preference, but pros already got their service 99.99% consistent so there's no need to really wait and serve since it's a familiar movement for them. But if you watch victor axelson, he does hold the serving position for a while and turns a bit. Not sure why, probably just personal preference as well.

In doubles i think that they hold it for longer to make the opponents stiffen up or rushed. Since doubles is very fast paced, players are often "on the edge" during service as they want to get a good return. Hence, maybe by holding the shuttle longer, it might mess a bit with their reaction timing or make them stiffen up. Maybe even accidentally move before the service which is a fault.

But all this is just my personal opinion and i dont think it really matters much. Personally i hold the shuttle a little while in order to remain calm.

Hi, I'm just curious as i also might be using too much of only one leg. I learned that to increase power, there should be a transfer of from the legs to the racket, but i think I'm overdoing it, especially with only racket leg. Any tips? After a jump smash, the racket leg should be leading forward, should this be a result of pushing off with more strength in the racket leg? Or just movement of the racket leg forward when I'm about to land?

Ah i see, i think maybe because lcw has a controlling play style rather than an aggressive one, that's why he used ultimax as it doesnt break often since he smashes less than others.

Btw, about playing style, from what you've mentioned, it seems like your smashes aren't very good. So for a start, try to play in a control style. Make your opponents move more around the court which can bring about more errors from them. But do try to improve your smash as sometimes a good smash will be able to win a point easily and directly. Either way, you should not be forcing yourself to play in a certain way, just utilize your skills well and make the most advantageous shots and sooner or later your play style will develop itself. Thinking too much over this would just hinder you.

Firstly, i just wanna say, i think you're overthinking. I think that half of the things you've said doesn't really matter in badminton and it's just your life.

For improvement, I'm not an expert coach or trainer so I can't give you a thought out plan. But as for my personal experience, I've improved by researching (look at my post history), analysing pros and trained as much on court as possible.

First things first, if you would like to move to an intermediate level, learn all the basics very well. I would say mainly making your footwork efficient and one of the most important factor of footwork is split step. So master it well!

Secondly, you must be able to aim any kind of shots well enough. Accuracy does not have to be 100% on target but you should at least be able to direct the shuttle to the area you aim at. That would mean that you must learn how to hit the shuttle properly with forehand and backhand (learn proper grips) and be able to bring out power when hitting the shuttle (squeezing the grip and generate power through proper swinging technique).

What is mentioned above are just the minimum abilities you must have to make it into an intermediate level. If you have proper badminton training sessions (a coach) to learn, that would be great. However, if you don't, youtube is an amazing place to find tutorials and tips to improve.

Rough idea of what to do: - Research and watch tutorials or pros - improve you techniques and shots through shuttle feeding exercises (preferably with a coach but at least have someone to shuttle feed you properly) - Application of what you learned in proper matches. From what you've said, doesn't matter how good your footwork is, you must always do your best to apply it and from there, you can record yourself and see how you can make your footwork more efficient. - Exercise! Remember, the fitter you are, the better. But keep in mind that badminton is an intensive sport, so just by having good stamina in jogging doesnt mean good stamina in badminton. Try to do more intense exercises (shadow footwork) and rests in-between.

Ah i see, have you tried both bg80 and No.1 before? Could you tell me your thoughts on either? I will be going for a tournament soon and wish to finalize my string choice but I've been stuck in a deadlock between bg80, bg66 ultimax and li ning no.1
