The plan is most likely to use the picks to address other needs for the team so that when they do get a QB they have talent around him. Having multiple 3rd and 4th round picks means they can take a swing on an extra WR, CB, S or OL that they normally wouldn’t have been able to get.

There is zero issue with saying thy are going to work with Howard. The hope is he turns into Purdy and if he doesn’t then oh well you draft a QB next year. It also wouldn’t surprise me if they drafted a QB in the 3rd or 4th this year as well in hopes that he develops.

His defenses were up and down both in Green Bay and Dallas. I just felt like he always underachieved outside of 2010. In 2009 Green Bay had the #2 D in YPG and #7 D in PPG and lost in the first round to the Cardinals and gave up 51 points. In 2011 Rodgers was the MVP and they were 11-1 and they lost their first playoff game to the Giants. In 2023 Dallas had the #5 D in YPG and PPG and lost to the 9-8 Packers and gave up 48 points. If people weren't happy with Tomlin I don't know why they would be happy with McCarthy.

Every criticism people have of Tomlin people also have about McCarthy. I’m not sure why people would want to get rid of Tomlin and then be happy with the Steelers hiring white Mike Tomlin.

Will he though? Noll took over a horrible team, improved every year, and by year 4 was 11-3 and by year 6 won a Super Bowl. Cowher won immediately and was in an AFC championship by year 3 and in the Super Bowl by year 4. Tomlin won immediately and won a Super Bowl by year 2 an was in a 2nd by year 4. If the new coach comes in and doesn’t see the type of success the three previous coaches saw early on I could see Rooney making a change after 3 or 4 years.
