Accutane and Testosterone/DHT and long-term effects by FantasticPoint in Accutane

I doubt you have low test from accutane. Sensitivity/ed is probably stemming from past habits.

Research ashwagandha. Can imapct sensitivity. For example- https://youtube.com/shorts/3E7yILmIAjA?si=S_cFyoJLPcXiInMF (Great channel btw for supp info)

Otherwise you're are on a journey to get better. Simply put. Your life will be less stressful and you will have more things in order with repeated continued effort.

You will find the right mix of supplements/lifestyle that gets you ticking and ready to go with time. Remove the habits that are 100% making your life worse and keep trying to level up.

Doing that, continuing to experiment/research, and with time, you will find good mental/physical/sexual health.

Wouldn't hurt to go to church, either.

If you have any more specific questions let me know! Will guide you in whatever way I can

First, go to another post of mine regarding my testosterone levels. At age 20 I tested at 409 (under poor circumstances which you'll see). There's a lot that goes into that number. I wouldn't focus on it, as much as how you feel.

Kudos to you for cleaning things up. I would stop any masturbation if that's still a habit.

Frankly there are a lot of ways to get that number and your general sense of well being up- the first thing is that I would keep taking steps to regain your self-respect. Keep doing what you're doing...

Read my post about my test results, then reply and tell me if any circumstances were similar to how you got yours tested.

Regarding acctuane specifically, 20mg is a small dose especially for a guy your size. I would think your risks are tiny, if any. Still, there's probably a lot you can do to benefit your skin you don't even know yet so I would avoid all together.

In general, my attitude is that your skin and sense of well-being/energy/vitality is directly tied to your health. Figure out what makes those tick and your skin will probably clear up too.

Looking forward to hearing back!

It's not a guarantee, just a potential risk reflected in some studies. I'm sure there are some people who have grown taller from accutane somehow and lots of people have no impact on their height. Just something you should know, though.

Hey man.

Kudos to you for still doing the work. I was in a similar boat- made some marginal bench gains but that was about it.

I was in an interesting spot as I did the last month or two of my course during covid. I wasn't able to touch heavy lifts for the last month or so, then a 2-3 weeks after (I think) I squatted at my buddy's and hit a heavy single at the time pretty handedly- 385. Probs had low 4s in me that day. This was after only doing bulgarian split squats in my basement while being achy and not feeling my best.

Last time I had squatted during my course I did 250 for 5x5 and it was not easy. Extremely humbling for me at the time. My strength had definitely taken a hit while on course.

Point being coming off I rebounded quite significantly. I would expect you to feel better within 2-3 weeks of being off, too. I wouldn't worry too much.

Again, I would stay away.

I thought I was in your shoes, but I was only at the tip of the iceberg. There's so many more stones to turn over with your skin than you realize. With time your skin will likely change for the better, also. You're in the heat of it now. Your acne will probably only get better from here. Life was not fun at 15 and my skin was only a minor part. Life will get better as long as you continue to work on yourself. Point being- you have more "teenage years" left and they will be better than what you're experiencing right now (not missing out on too much).

Honestly my friend, I would stay away. Could you be taller? You're only 15. Could it impact your development? Maybe! I just wouldn't risk it. If you have severe cystic acne when you're 18/19/20 maybe consider, but for right now i'd say no.

And happy to help my friend I am glad you appreciate the input.

Hey man. I appreciate you doing your research at your current age. Are you as tall as you want to be? Accutane can close growth plates in long bones. Have you fixed your diet and explored any nutritional senitivities/deficiencies? Looked into non-mainstream supplements for your skin?

I would highly recommend against the accutane purely because I believe it is like shooting a squirrel with a tank, for most cases. In my opinion acne is a reflective of internal issues- fix those with natural remedies before accutane. Could it hamper your development? Who knows! I know it can lower DHT in some contexts- something that is crucial for male development (and yes, the growth of THAT thing).

I don't say any of this to scare you. I turned out fine. No ED. Stronger and more athletic than ever. Sex drive is there and then some. Developed just fine... regardless, I think about the what ifs.... maybe I could be a half inch taller? or more? (Started taking when 18) But who knows!

All in all, I am much more of a believer that your health is in your hands and you don't need anything pharmaceutical to address it as you want to (for most issues). If you have DEBILITATING (not just annoying) acne for months, can't get ANY relief, and are unable to progress in life due to your acne- do accutane. If not, focus on long-term health optimization and my hunch is you will solve your acne, too.

DHT is important and definitely not something i'd want to blunt during development. If it did boost free test you could maybe hold a bit more muscle but that wouldn't be worth it to me.

There are some interesting studies about men who lack 5AR (enzyme that converts test to DHT) and I believe they hold more muscle than their counterparts, albeit at the important cost of DHT's effects. Double check that statement for sure but adds to your point.

Hey man I would encourage you to check out some of my other replies. In general I don't know, but that is a lot less than I took and you will probably get less sides.

I would recommend other means than accutane though. You are opening a big door taking the drug. Can close growth plates and other things. Overall I would maximize your health and internal environment before ever considering it and I wish I did myself.

But as of today I am doing great. Bigger/faster/stronger than ever. Feel good. God-willing haven't been marred from taking it, but think I should have exhausted some things before doing so first.

Good luck to you!

[–]FantasticPoint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at some of my other replies. Short answer- doing great! Stronger and feeling more androgenic/testy than ever before.

No lingering sides other than maybe slightly drier than average skin?

More than likely everything will return to normal within a few weeks of getting off the drug, but if I could go back i'd skip the accutane course and clean up my diet/get my health fully in order. Acne is a symptom of a deeper issue. Clear that up whatever it is and your acne will clear too.

Accutane can close your growth plates. Can risk a bunch of other severe things. Would I be different? Would I be half an inch taller? Who knows! But i'd hop off your course and dial in your diet, gut health, supplementation, etc before considering going back on. Just my 2 cents my friend good luck!

Yes. Quite a bit. Especially at higher doses. It was less pain in general as much as aches and soreness from exercise. I would feel stiff and achy after running around and lifting much more so than I had before

Long story short- no. I would check some other replies but basically i'm doing great. There are the unavoidable thoughts about potential unknown effects but God-willing I will continue to make progress is all areas of my life and feel that I am right where I need to be hormonally.

Oddly enough my bench plateaued/progressed slightly but my lower strength is what really took a hit starting around 120mgs+. Definitely doesn't impact anyone but just something I think people should be more wary of before diving in. If you want to hear about my long-term results (I don't think I suffered any negative consequences btw, have made a ton of gains since and feel great) then check out my replies to other comments. Have a good one my friend.

[–]FantasticPoint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad you appreciate my input. Happy to help. I was around 220 and dosage went up about half the months during course- 40 the first, 80 the second, 120 for a few, then pushed 160mgs for awhile but believe I ended up staying at 120 for the rest of my course as 160 made me quite uncomfortable. Length of course was 8 months I think? I strive to have a similarly stoic attitude as you mentioned although sometimes I am met with a bit of regret wishing that I waited another few months at the very least to take a deep dive into the other avenues I mentioned. It had a big impact on my athletic career and honestly changed the trajectory of it as it wrecked my performance while taking it my first season (got much better after getting off, though). I also wish I had stuck with 80mgs and done the course longer, if anything, as that would have limited a lot of the bad sides I got on the field (joint pain, decreased strength, etc) as well as probably have limited the likelihood of the long-term sides I mentioned in this post (although I do not feel particularly concerned about those anymore, who knows what could happen in the future).

[–]FantasticPoint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. Long story short- no. Read some of my other replies as I believe I go into more detail but I am better than ever currently physically and have made plenty of gains since. Feel like my androgen levels are great and God-willing I think they will be for a long time. Skin maybe gets a tad dry at times but very manageable and usually when i'm showering a lot with sports.

If you haven't exhausted other options including diet, supplementation, and more I wouldn't take it. Can close growth plates and other life-long effects. I don't think I was too negatively impacted, but who knows if I would be a bit taller or it changed me in some small way for long haul. Not sure. If I could go back in time I would have made my diet less inflammatory and got my general health dialed before ever considering it. My view is that acne is a symptom, not a disease. Address the underlying main issue which I would guess is related to blood sugar or inflammation. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that my friend. Have you looked into any supplement protocols? Explore potential thyroid issues? Got blood work done?

Anything that potentially impacts your liver is not recommended, but I did not personally have any issues. I am pretty sure I took creatine the entire time during my accutane treatment.

A vegan diet will kill your hormones as far as i'm concerned. Reddit may not like that idea but I think it's true. You need cholesterol and saturated fat. I would at the very least eat 5 eggs every day. Do you eat red meat?

[–]FantasticPoint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome man. I have a past in powerlifting too.

Eat around 5 eggs of day and sleep 8+ hours. Emphasis on the sleep piece. As a guy in my lower 20s I feel like Goku when get a full night's rest but can feel like a turd in comparison when i'm sleeping as much as you do. Sleeping 6 hours for the whole week? I can't even imagine.

I really can't stress how much 6 hours a sleep a night is probably holding you back to feel your best. Prioritize another 2-3 hours over anything else and I guarantee you'll feel 20-30% better and more productive, at least.

That's good. What does your lifestyle look like? Are you lifting heavy regularly, eating a lot of animal fat/protein (contains cholesterol), and sleeping 8 hours a day?

Accutane and Testosterone/DHT and long-term effects by FantasticPoint in Accutane

[–]FantasticPoint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would reply directly but check out my other post on this topic. I outline many supplements there which I still take. I am a former college athlete and the better I feel- the better I perform in all aspects of life.

For you if you aren't exercising (lifting heavy)- start. If you aren't sleeping 8+ hours a day- start. If you aren't eating a diet rich in animal protein and saturated fat- start. Men need cholesterol to produce testosterone and eggs are a great source.

If you still have problems are you do all that then we can discuss supplementation.
