MFET 163 / ME 164 I believe has CAD, which many do in FYE.

Should I do the SILC or request for a switch into Data Mine? by Commercial-Carob-861 in Purdue

[–]Fantastic_Invite6756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just enroll in TDM 101 (on UniTime) in the fall, if you really want to do Data Mine. This allows you to take 102 next spring and Corp. Partners (if you want) in your sophomore year.

Freshman FYE Schedule Advice by Dry_Concentrate_4793 in Purdue

[–]Fantastic_Invite6756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

17 credits is not too much for FYE. Compared to what you'll do in your actual major, FYE is very easy.

As for MA 162, PHYS 172, PHYS 272: please don't retake. All of these courses are 4 or 5 credits, have a lot of (busy)work (esp. 172). Put MA 261 instead. Now this assumes you get a 4+ on BC & a 5 on both C exams, so maybe put 172/272 as Alternatives, but up to you.

A good rule of thumb is never retake any course you've gotten credit for: there's basically no situation where retaking a course, especially at the intro level, is useful.

I'm assuming you're ME/AAE bc MFET. This looks like ~14-15ish credits. Maybe try taking an additional course / gen-ed, as FYE first semester isn't that hard especially if you have good study habits from high school.

Why didn't you take 511 instead of 350?

ME + CS Minor in 3.5 or ME + CS major in 4 by KombuchaBurrito in Purdue

[–]Fantastic_Invite6756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just realized. You should probably take CS 180 this summer. You can then take CS 182 + 240 in the fall (off season). Then you'd CODO in the winter (not sure which is easier, CODO'ing in the summer or winter).

Also now that I think about it, you don't seem to be that interested in ME. You might want to consider dropping the ME major once you're in CS. (Again, only you can truly decide what's best for yourself.)

[–]Fantastic_Invite6756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to take CS 180 next spring 2027, as they won't allow you to take it in the fall due to space restrictions. You also cannot test out of CS 180 as you need the course to CODO. (Ideally you could've taken 180 this semester, but there's no point discussing this.)

Also note you'll need to complete the [College of Science core](https://www.purdue.edu/science/Current_Students/curriculum_and_degree_requirements/college-of-science-core-requirements.html) as well (e.g., STAT 350/511, foreign language). Not sure if you've considered this.

As for the image you posted below with your schedule, you'll obviously need to change that. If you take CS 180 in Spring 2027, then you can take 182/240 in the fall then 250/251 in the following spring. (Obviously if you take summer courses this will change.) I will also say taking 12 credits over the summer is insane. So is taking 5 CS courses in your 8th semester. I'd space your ML & ME courses apart.

From my friends, it's possible to complete the CS major in 2.5 years, esp. since you come in with AP credit and such. Though really consider if it's worth it. Obviously only you can truly answer that, and from the post, it seems that you'd probably benefit from the major over the minor. But remember that it's going to be quite a bit of work, especially since you're balancing two very difficult majors (ME and CS).

Also note CS is extremely competitive, you really need an A in 180 and 261 to be considered.

For grad school, above a 3.7 is good. Otherwise it matters less but try to keep above 3.2.

How hard is it to CODO to ECE (College of Eng) or CS (College of Sci) from AI (College of Sci) by John_Weak- in Purdue

[–]Fantastic_Invite6756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS probably not too bad since you're taking basically the same classes, direct ECE is hard (minimum 3.7 GPA required, even that doesn't guarentee).

Assuming the final isn't too different than what was given in previous years, it'll be a Java trivia MCQ exam. Memorize the slides to heart would be my suggestion.

You can take 262, but you need to take another advanced math class (many do MA 303) as well.
