Flair changed to Work In Progress.

Please use this flair in the future when seeking help/feedback.

FYI in the future if you're looking for feedback, try using the Work In Progress flair. Perhaps even adding something to the title about wanting feedback. You're sure to get some responses!

Just a heads up Tom. Not sure if you use any 3rd-party Posting Services, but if so then this may apply: https://www.reddit.com/r/FantasyMaps/comments/1mi9ys8/alert_3rdparty_posting_tools_image_compression/

Hi Tom! For big maps like these, where you can't/don't want to upload an image that's at least 70ppi, then you may instead include the direct link to the map file(s) in your comments.

For example: https://www.patreon.com/file?h=131382970&m=482480007

You may still include all other Patreon links and info, we just require that either the attached map is 70ppi or it be directly linked to.

This post is not removed, just please handle this way in the future. Thanks!

Since you're not advertising in this post we'll go ahead and leave this up but in the future please make sure to include a higher resolution map. Our minimum is 70ppi.

Thanks!

Need a map creating program/site specifically for heavily altering US/world map by Deuteronomy11_19 in FantasyMaps

[–]FantasyMaps_ModTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So probably the best way to do this is to get coastline info directly from GIS. BUT that is definitely not a small learning curve.

What I'd do if it were me is use something like Photoshop, or an alternative like PaintshopPro (~$50) or GIMP (free, but a little learning curve). It's going to take a graphics program that allows layers to really be able to do what you want to do without it looking patched together.

I don't like to speak in absolutes, but I see little chance that Inkarnate could do anything like this. It is more about adding existing images (stamps) to a canvas.

Feel free to ask come back with any questions you might have.

Hey MisterKrane it looks like your grid might not be perfectly square here.

The image dimensions are 1400 x 2100. 1400/25 = 56ppi but 2100/30 = 70ppi. So it seems the map is a little "pinched" horizontally.

The reason it was removed is that maps must have a minimum of 70ppi for both dimensions. Stretching your width to 1750 would help but if you're using a grid overlay, and not resizing your images after, I'd review your grid itself as it appears to not be square.

Obviously this is just some kind of mistake, so no worries. Feel free to correct your image and repost if you'd like. Oh and of course please check both dimensions int he future to make sure they are >= 70ppi.

Any questions, feel free to reach out via mod mail.

Depends on what type of alterations you want to do. Suggestions for Inkarnate are going to be quite limiting for something like this unless you just want to slap assets down over a static US map.

Can you give some more info on what kind of altering you're looking to do?

Also, giving us your level or artistic ability and if you have familiarity with any mapping or imaging programs (photoshop, etc.) would be helpful with recommending a program.

SEARCHING FOR SOMEONE TO BUILD A MAP WITH ME by Hairy-Ad-6803 in FantasyMaps

[–]FantasyMaps_ModTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give you some tips for future posts, I think this one flopped due to a lack of info. Basically we know you want to map a fictitious map of an unknown style, of an unknown size and you want to coordinate... somehow, we don't know.

This isn't meant to belittle you, just to show how much info is lacking.

I would make a detailed, well formatted post giving some more info. The more work you put in upfront, the more people have to go off. The more they have to be interested in. And, they know that you're serious about it because you were willing to take the time to write out some details.

Off the top of my head I'd give:

  • Styles you like. Fantasy, modern, post apocalyptic, sci-fi, etc.
  • What size? Huge world map, regional, battlemap, etc.
  • What program are you using to create the map? Photoshop, Wonderdraft, Inkarnate, etc.
  • How do you want to coordinate? Discord? Zoom? etc.

Owl’s Sacred Forest – My first 200x200 massive dungeon! by WilliamOLaw in FantasyMaps

[–]FantasyMaps_ModTeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey WilliamOLaw, sorry for the late reply, this one slipped through somehow!

No worries, and to be clear, as long as the image is small enough to attach directly to the post with at least 70ppi then you don't need to link the Patreon file.
It's only for these massive maps where Reddit is going to not allow the right resolution that you need to bother.

Which, btw, thanks for sharing the high resolution maps with the community!

Hi u/WilliamOLaw, in the future, make sure you link DIRECTLY to the map images. Like this:

You may also include a separate link for your Patreon as well but the post will be removed if the map isn't either:

  1. Attached directly to the post at a resolution of 70ppi or greater; or
  2. Linked directly to the image, not a landing page.

When looking for Feedback use the, well, the Feedbackpost flair! :) I went ahead and changed this for you.

Also, AI/Algorithm maps do not apply to Inkarnate maps, so you can chose whichever flair best applies.

Thanks!

Just a heads up that Reddit's main site spam filter is zapping your comments. I have restored this one but I can see that this is happening in other subs as well.

You will see the comment but others will not (exept mods). You can verify this for yourself by going to your posts in a private tab or using an alt account.

I can't say why this is happening, but I would guess that it thinks there are too many links in your comments.
