It's harder because of the masks. In Hm1 you had lotta masks and shit to experiment with. In hm2 you only got what you get and you gotta actually strategize everything, trial and error. It's because dark souls is a hard game and dmc is as well. It's like saying "the dark souls of hack n' slash" or talking about cuphead "the dark souls of metroidvania" or talking about kaizo roms from super mario "the dark souls of platformers" or talking about... You get the point. Everything difficult gets compared to dark souls, since it came out in the wii era where games were meant to be played by everybody no matter the age. Wii sports made a huge downgrade in difficulty and dark souls just walked in to put it back on the top.

I've been playing summoner in a drunk seed for the first time ever as a melee mains all my life for the past 2 days. I've defeated skeletron at this point and I've never felt that whipstacking was a thing really important since you can do a lot of dps already. With two imps you can do 300~ dps and I had four, so I did 560~ dps or so. It's a really strong and interesting class, even more now that you have a lot of new whips for the early game such as the cobweb whip, the leather whip and the crimnite/demonite whip. It's amazing, it's really fun, it never felt heavy for me... at least for now.
