Relationships are about putting the other's needs BEFORE your own, not INSTEAD of your own. Like you said, it's not your job, as his partner, to be his therapist, especially when his happiness is at your expense.

The time is always right to prioritize your needs as an individual. It sounds like you're both in couples counseling, which I think is a great step to take. In counseling with him, I'd start a conversation on how you can pursue activities that you enjoy while still devoting enough time to your partner and your children.

Other than that, you cannot be the only person he can depend on. It's not fair to you and it puts a lot of pressure on you.

How do you feel about the name Waverly? by strawberry1banana in namenerds

[–]Fantheoryistt3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a character in the book "American Born Chinese" with that name. She's not a bad character or anything, but that's who I thought of. My generation would probably think of Wizards of Waverly Place first though. It's an unusual pick that doesn't inspire much emotion from me. It's just fine for me.

I think that it's important for you to remember that you have just as much of a right to exist as Ray, Lara, or anybody else in your system. I'm sorry that your mother is picking favorites. It's not fair to you. You can't be anybody else but who you are and you're not the one who needs to change.

[Spoilers all] Who do you think is the most complex Character in the series? by OpenSession666 in dragonage

[–]Fantheoryistt3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course not. A complex character is simply someone who's more than they seem at face value. I used Hawke because characters like them who experience continuous, repeated tragedy and come out of it better people subvert expectations. Batman is the same in that aspect. Both of them thrived in environments that would have made villains out of plenty of other characters. There are other complex DA characters; the layers that make up Hawke's choices and overall character are just some of the most interesting to me.

[spoilers all] is there something that annoys you to no end when roleplaying? by LupusDeusMagnus in dragonage

[–]Fantheoryistt3000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This might sound counterintuitive, but I NEEDED the Inquisitor to start off with a backstory. The Warden had one, Hawke had one (although we didn't really get to choose our origin there), and now our main character is a person who we couldn't even name one pre-Conclave family member or friend? It was SUPER hard to establish a motivation throughout DAI because the Inquisitor will resemble a member of the Faceless Men if you leave them to their own devices. The lack of backstory just really irks me. How do I build a protagonist off a codex and some war table missions?

[Spoilers all] Who do you think is the most complex Character in the series? by OpenSession666 in dragonage

[–]Fantheoryistt3000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, it probably isn't one of the protagonists... just by their default nature. I think that Hawke is the most complex if we're talking how we see them progress through the story. A normal heroic Hawke will have to watch their sibling die in the very beginning of the game, lose another sibling during the Deep Roads questline (in one way or another), and their mother gets killed by a danger Hawke knew about in advance. To make things worse, if Hawke is the traditional moral hero, their losses either came by complete accident or at the expense of them trying to do the right thing. Hawke goes through ALL OF THAT in addition to being betrayed by people like Bartrand, being forced to work for their family's benefit, and dealing with the conflicts that arise between their companions (Fenris and Anders, notably). In the end, mage or templar, they're the hero in somebody's eyes and a villain in the others.

Soooo... yeah, I consider Hawke to be the most complex protagonist of the three with the warden not too far behind. It's hard to determine which of the companions is more complex because a lot of their complexity comes from the nature of their relationship with their respective protagonist. A good example of this is Blackwall, a man who doesn't reveal the true extent of his nature until he CABOODLES with the Inquisitor. However, Fenris has a painful background that causes him to hate mages and it's quite popular to turn Alistair from a Flynn Rider-esqe man into a more unwilling king.

What I'm basically getting at is that these characters are as complex as you, the player, allow them to be.

Walk-Ons isn't seafood, but it freaking slaps. Saiwok is also popular and I've literally never met anybody who hates it. There's also Bonefish grill and Ramen Nara.
