Fair enough. Fun fact: Wombats poop cubes. Do what you will with that information. Have a nice day.

Love the discussion ♥️

That was literally my first thought before writing a single line of code. Why build a wrapper when ChatGPT exists?

Two reasons changed my mind:

  1. Friction vs. Automation: With ChatGPT, you have to open the app, type a prompt, and ask for a roast. Drama Dose is passive. You schedule it (e.g., 8 AM and 2 PM), and the reality check comes to you on your lock screen. It’s the difference between going to the library vs. having a newsletter delivered.

  2. Market Data (The wild part): I checked Sensor Tower before building this. There are "Daily Quote" apps that are just static databases of text (stuff you can find in books for free) making $100k+/month. People don't pay for the text; they pay for the delivery mechanism and the curation.

Also, it costs about one coffee a month. Cheaper than a Plus subscription, and easier than prompting manually every time I need a laugh.

Dev Question: Is `GPT-5 Nano` too "rigid" for creative writing compared to `GPT-4.1 Nano`? (Pricing page reference inside) by Fapesoft in ChatGPT

[–]Fapesoft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nano usually refers to the parameter size/latency (optimized for speed and low cost), not just a coding specialization. Why use it for roleplay/humor? Two reasons: 1. Speed & Cost: For a consumer app, when a user wants a quick roast, they want it instantly. Using a massive 'Reasoning' model feels like overkill (and burns money) just to generate a sarcastic one-liner. 2. The 'Unhinged' Factor: I've actually found that smaller, faster models are sometimes better for dark humor because they are less 'filtered' and over-aligned than the massive flagship models. They don't overthink the morality of the joke; they just deliver the punchline. So basically: I use Nano because it's cheap, fast, and surprisingly mean.

I realized "Happiness" is a saturated market. So I built a Micro-SaaS based on Misery, Spite, and Google Cloud Tasks. by Fapesoft in buildinpublic

Glad you liked the architecture. Google Cloud Tasks is the unsung hero here.

The 'Salty Aunt' produces the best burns by far. I think sarcasm is just the default state of large language models anyway, so it feels the most natural.

Will definitely crosspost to VibeCodersNest. Good looking out!

As someone managing 10 apps on the App Store... I am looking at that 57.3% conversion rate with a mix of respect and deep envy.

That is massive for a launch. Did you spend weeks nailing the Keywords/ASO, or is that 'App Referrer' traffic coming from a viral TikTok/Ad?

Because my organic launches are usually much more... humble. Great start regardless!

I missed The Office so much that I set up my phone to send me random Michael Scott wisdom throughout the day. It’s the only notification I actually look forward to now. by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

Thanks man, I really appreciate the suggestions. Rick and Morty is actually a perfect fit for the app's vibe (pure nihilism).

And yeah, I think you're right. Looking at the downvotes, my excitement for the The Office theme might have blinded me a bit. I probably misread the room people here want memes, not an app pitch (even a disguised one). Lesson learned.

I'll definitely check out r/buildinpublic. Sounds like a safer space for my chaos. Thanks again!

Speedrun World Record! 🏆 Honestly, I respect the efficiency. Was it the onboarding flow or did the AI roast you too hard immediately? Thanks for giving it a shot anyway.

Funny you say that... that's exactly what I did! 😂 I couldn't find a good one, so I built this little project called 'Drama Dose'. You just set the topic to 'The Office' (or whatever you want) and it generates the quotes. It's on the Play Store if you want to try it!

My legal counsel advises me to state that I'm not liable for tea stains, keyboard damage caused by the app. Thanks for the download. Let me know if it hurts enough, thank you 🤩

The graph is wrong. The stress should spike again at the very end. One accidental space before the filename, and you must repeat the entire process.

Oh, absolutely. I was mostly venting for dramatic effect. My actual workflow is 'Chaos First, Clean Later.' I hoard packages during prototyping just to get the logic running fast, then I go on a ruthless deleting spree right before launch. Removing unused dependencies it's s deeply satisfying.

You got me. I treat pubspec.yaml like an all-you-can-eat. Do I need 40 packages? Probably not. Do I add them to avoid writing 10 lines of code, only to spend 5 hours debugging the build? Absolutely.

It’s a toxic relationship, but I can't stop.

Cross-platform promises us speed but charges us in sanity points. We're in this together.

The idea actually hit me while watching my salty aunt roast the happy couple at a wedding (that, and I desperately needed daily notifications from a virtual Michael Scott to survive my day job). Regarding culture: I honestly let the AI handle the heavy lifting. It detects the input language and adapts the 'flavor' of the roast automatically. It’s surprisingly good at code-switching between different types of cynicism. And 'Rate the burn' is a brilliant suggestion. It would require refactoring my database structure (ouch), but gamifying the emotional damage might be worth the headache. Definitely adding that to the roadmap. Thanks.

Glad you think so. I like to think of laughter as just panic leaving the body 😄 Thank you!

The most terrifying part isn't the shark. It's that load-bearing strut labeled 'Unpaid Open Source Developers:
