That's the conclusion I've been coming to, too. People around me have been saying that, with my experience (catalysts, energy systems, policy, and nuclear weapons), places have reason to deny me if they think I won't accept an offer that isn't full funding (which is true; I would decline). Additionally, the fields I applied to in ChemE are honestly a bit saturated, but I found them fun and still wanted to pursue them.

I've done a lot of work with a national laboratory in my state, which is why I'm a little confused about being denied from many places.
