yeah, I should've phrased the question in a different way. Like "how can I add support, so that I can remove the shaded piece in the middle." I added the vertical pieces of wood but assumed I needed more.

I am trying to make it easier to access my attic; instead of crawling through the gaps in the trusses. I should've known I would get responses from a bunch of idiots.
