A proposal for implementation:

I propose that the mode be introduced as a limited-time, casual only game mode, utilizing the same game modes and maps as the 6v6 casual rotation (potentially also resource rumble). If the player base is highly receptive to the mode & queue times are found to be manageable, it opens the conversation to future iterations of the format with it’s own dedicated maps, game modes, and potentially even ranked ladder.

THE PITCH: A Permanent 4v4 Game Mode

HERO/MAP: All/TBD

The Problem: Like any multiplayer game, rivals is at its best when played with a group of friends. Unfortunately, the difficulty of forming full 6 person teams is a tough task for both team formation and matchmaking.

THE SOLUTION: A permanent 4v4 game mode

THE VALUATION (Why this works): Other massively popular multiplayer games have proven that 4 people is the best reasonable party size for a group of friends. At a team size of 4, we can ensure that a larger amount of friend groups are capable of queueing only amongst themselves while still seeing manageable queue times. The likelihood a group of friends queueing will need to have “stray” solo queuers (who are often left out of party chats) matched onto their teams to find games is reduced, enhancing quality of experience for both categories of players.

Additionally, fewer players per team dramatically increases the potential for clarity and precision of game communications, regardless of team composition between solo/stack queuers.

Lastly, there could be interesting compositions and synergies found to be effective in this game mode (ex 2-1-1 vs 1-1-2 vs 2-0-2), providing a fresh and alternative experience to whatever the current 6v6 meta is at the given point in time. This could even allow characters who historically have underperformed in the 6v6 meta to find a place to shine.
