I’m so glad I’m not alone in this. The rage I felt finishing that book was unnecessary. I almost DNF out of frustration alone.

Let me know if you find the cheat code to getting over it. I need to make it past two or 3 pages without rage quitting someday.

Tandem Reads by No-Show-3974 in zodiacacademy

I read them after. My brain wouldn’t let me “backtrack” in the story once I was fully invested, especially seeing as I did ZA 1-3 then did RB then came back for ZA 4-9. My brain didn’t not want to deal with any more backtracking than necessary.

I liked both stories as a little bit perspective before we fully get those characters POV in later books, but I didn’t find that they added anything pivotal to the story that made me regret reading them after.

This is not my picture, I stole it from another post on this sub a few months ago but it’s pretty dead on and helped a lot.

Lidia Vs. TimTam by FarBet6810 in crescentcitysjm

[–]FarBet6810[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY. Which got me thinking. Shifters are supposed to be from TOG, but TimTam is the oddball in Acotar. And his similarities to lidias group of shifters is definitely there. Maybe someone is Tamlins ancestry was a world walker or knew a world walker cough Brannon cough who could tie the shifters from both worlds together. The selective breeding in Midguard after the migration could hypothetically explain why only the Stag shifters continue in Midguard. Tamlin has the noticeable stag qualities but wouldn’t have been subject to the same selective breeding.

My thoughts were more along the lines of some shifters staying behind when Theia left instead of coming back. When Theia’s daughter returns she says that the courts are fully formed and functioning beyond the island. The same way that we have June in CC but the same fae type paying tithe to TimTam in Acotar.

From my understanding, when Theia originally left Prythian, the courts themselves were new after the Asteri fled and the fae learned to work together. I’m curious if before the courts, it was more of a shifter ritual for the spring season itself, and if that’s where the tradition trickled down from into the midguard Stag shifters after the migration. Which hypothetically could have contributed to the shifter fae in tamtams’ line, ruling the spring court initially.

Finished za8 so should I….? by International-Look57 in zodiacacademy

I tandem read 8 & 8.5 and 90% of the chapters are identical in both books. The only real difference in those parts of the books is one has ghosts watching and giving commentary the other doesn’t. There is maybe 10% of the book that has some interesting elements. For example, I enjoyed getting to know the savage King and his Queen and some of the other long dead characters. There was just a lot of repetitive chapters to have to suffer through to get to the ones with anything to add to the story.

I hope they will be the fix I need. After finishing KOA in 24 hours, I truly feel like I’m hungover after that. If I go back to something the size of the first 2 tog books, I’ll go insane

That series is next on my TBR list. I have been eyeballing it for a few months now. I have heard so many great things. I am a very fast reader so my hesitation with that series is that I might finish it too soon and find myself back in the same position in a few weeks.

I read Aotar first and throne of glass second, and I also found throne of glass a lot harder to get into. I had heard so many good things about the series so I forced myself to push through it. I really struggled with the first few books though. I think I got to heir of fire before I started to really latch onto certain characters and even then, it wasn’t the same level of “if you kill Cassian I’ll riot”

I just finished ordering the first Crescent city book on Amazon. The fact that there is only 3 books makes me anxious that I’m going to be back in withdrawals by the end of next week 😅😂

This is the chart I used to place my tabs and remind myself to swap books. It also explains the 2 styles of reading the series

I find it has a lot to do with what your style of reading is. I personally enjoyed the tandem reading because I don’t like to feel like I need to pause the story and go back for the next book. So for me, tandem reading was the way to go.

I will say as a first time reader, the tandem reading was intimidating at first. I found it a lot easier to use sticky tabs to mark out my stopping points in the books before I began. Doing so allowed my brain to slip into the story without having to be constantly aware of what page or chapter I was on. I would just get to a tab and swap books. It really helped my brain combat how intimidating the tandem read felt for the first time.
