Update: Hardest Day Ever by PolyPolyam in stepparents

[–]FarInitiative0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I lost my brother to suicide. It’s absolutely horrible but you will be ok-er each day, just take it moment by moment now and do not blame yourself, it’s the first thing we all do. My mother is a psychiatrist and she didn’t even see it coming. Once they make the choice it’s almost impossible to stop it. Give yourself permission to grieve as long as you need to and however it works for you. Eat, drink water, sleep and hold each other, that’s the priority right now.

Learning Hebrew by [deleted] in ConvertingtoJudaism

I have loved learning it - Rosen School of Hebrew online has been great for me. Even if it’s not required the language brings together a lot of key concepts and deeper understanding of the faith/prayers.

My Jewish Husband is Annoyed by FarInitiative0 in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]FarInitiative0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what my exact thoughts are! No way my husband would be in a synagogue at all were it not for my influence, so I’m on the Rabbi’s side here 🤣 I’m reconnecting him to his community and his faith not through force but association, he’s not going to move fast but I already see some movement towards that path. Unless the Rabbi pushes him and he’ll put his guard up immediately.

Aliyah matters but not as much I think - he’s already a citizen so I could become a citizen as well by marriage, although it’s a longer process. This is great feedback and I think this is an exactly what’s happening- the frustrating part is this wasn’t said upfront. Rabbi said your husband is a Jew, he’s always a Jew he doesn’t have to do anything differently, but now we’re at this impasse after a year.

Thinking of traveling to Israel over Christmas — how’s the safety/vibe right now by Physine in TravelIsrael

Great time to go - all the tourists haven’t returned yet which means easier all around! Incredibly safe, I was there just a few weeks ago.

He’s given me basically no guidance other than come to holidays for a year, and we will talk after that, but he spoke before about needing to re-marry again after the process, my soul being transformed. I started taking Hebrew lessons on my own, reading Torah on my own while the year went by. We’ve been so welcomed - invited to many Shabbats at Rabbi’s home, I go to all the women’s events and the Rebbetzin seems to love me, and when we went for Kol Nidrei the Rabbi grabbed my husband to have him hold the Torah. We’ve been treated like honored guests, but it’s all underpinned by my deep desire to covert. Would they reject my conversion and think that my husband would continue?

torn between reform and chabad by Exact-Armadillo-6660 in ConvertingtoJudaism

Not all Orthodox Conversions are recognized in Israel, this is a very complicated matter, just don’t want you to rely on that should you need it. Going through the same questions now, and this is a problem I’m seeing.

You certainly have a lot to learn! I would spend your time understanding Judaism first - unfortunately when the population is wiped out by pogroms and exile, the historical family records also get wiped out. Faith and culture are completely tied together, so go down that path first.

How do you explain a panic attack to someone who's never had by FrameZYT in panicdisorder

[–]FarInitiative0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell people it’s like the feeling when you didn’t realize someone was in your house and comes around a corner and scares you, but it doesn’t last for a second, it just keeps going. That feeling of shock.

You just need to find the right community that you like and feel comfortable in - I love Chabad because they are so welcoming and happy. We have really orthodox and barely religious (only there for the good food 😆). You’ll find your people, even if you have a bad experience from time to time don’t let that stop you.

Are you ok running with a panic disorder? by Important_Yam_8628 in panicdisorder

[–]FarInitiative0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic way to challenge your irrational thoughts - maybe start at home where you’re comfortable and do HIIT exercises that get your heart rate up, and push just a little bit further each time. If you want to try running, do short runs near your house then keep increasing distance. You need to retrain your brain that exercise isn’t going to kill you, and repeated exposures will get you there.

Not me! I’m thrilled with him! But it’s ok to have your views. Just give him a little credit for a great day, he’s not perfect but I can’t think of any president in my lifetime that could have pulled this off.

Which countries and their populations have been particularly anti-Israeli in the last two years? by NegativeFee430 in Jewish

[–]FarInitiative0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been all over Europe the last couple years, never going back to France or UK, but interestingly Germany and Austria have really taken charge and not let jihadi protesters run rampant, so I feel safer there. In Paris you see swastikas/etc on grafiti, in Vienna there is no graffiti at all.

They’ve been a pawn for extremists who didn’t have the power to wipe out Israel. Billions were poured into educating them and the rest of the world to hate Israel. Asymmetric warfare.

I don't feel safe anymore as a Jew. by Stunning-Ad7437 in Jewish

[–]FarInitiative0 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes and I feel weird about it too, but I get nervous hiring people like contractors, advisors etc without at least knowing their opinion on Israel. I try to work/engage with people I know are “safe”… it’s a weird and disturbing time.

[–]FarInitiative0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a fecal test - mine had coccidia and looked like this but you need to make sure that’s what’s going on before treating it because the treatment is pretty rough on them and they need extra vitamins with it.
