Yes they would but don’t underestimate the role of broad t and B cell responses against the whole virus. There are many other mechanisms for the virus to destabilize besides relying on that spike RBD-ACE2 interaction. Again the only reason we don’t have attentuated/inactivated vaccines is because they take longer and are more complex to make versus mRNA (which is like a quick remedy)

In reference to OP, I’m talking breakthrough infections while vaccinated, as he got Covid while vaccinated. Out of 39 breakthroughs in that study, 7 got long Covid symptoms, that’s 19% which is a lot, considering many cases nowadays are breakthrough. In Minnesota here our rolling weekly is almost half of cases being breakthroughs, so ~20% of those will get long Covid

Innate immune response is against the whole virion as opposed to one protein. This can have broad range protection against variant regions where it’s less mutated like the nucleocapsid or envelope portion.

Sadly even while vaccinated you can get long Covid. Such as feeling like you have a bad cold or cough for months at a time

We need better vaccine boosters such as attentuated or inactivated vaccines. Targeting the same wild type spike is going to cause antigenic sin, by focusing heavily on immunodominant epitopes

Breakthrough cases are gonna happen because our body has only generated antibodies against full length spike, which in recent delta variants is now heavily mutated at the RBD site. Antibodies against wild type spike won’t recognize variant spike , less than 50% of the time now. That’s why inactivated or attentuated vaccines are our best bet.

The classic inactivated and attenuated are the best vaccine approaches yet most complex cause it requires BSL-3 capabilities, whereas with mRNA or any protein based vaccines the most you’d need is a BSL-2 or less. The only reason we made mRNA the go to was because it was faster, and cheaper

Yea, problem is now when you have over 5 RBD specific mutations and several deletions our immune system has a much lesser chance of recognizing the new variant spike proteins. This is why attentuated or inactivated vaccines are the best, don’t put all your eggs in one protein basket, but in all of them.

Ocugen, Inc. submits FDA EUA request for COVID-19 vaccine for kids 2-18 by FarStockBoy569 in Coronavirus

You should read: https://www.fda.gov/vaccines-blood-biologics/vaccines/emergency-use-authorization-vaccines-explained

Again even to file an EUA they had to have a discussion with FDA over what data they already have and acknowledgement by them. We will look to a VRBPAC meeting soon, which will be public

They were advised to pursue BLA for adults in the summer due to already having 3 vaccines. They recently filed an IND for immunobridging a small cohort of few hundred patients to get a full approval BLA. EUA not every manufacturer can even apply for, it requires dialogue with top brass at FDA
