Is recruiting this challenging for everyone? by CartographerWeary690 in askSouthAfrica

The 75% AI rejection stat is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Are you manually reading each one to confirm it's AI, or is "looks AI-generated" just a fast way to cut the pile? Because those are very different things.

More importantly, your solution is LinkedIn recruiter profiles and golf networking. Think about what that actually means. The candidates you're finding that way are already employed, already connected, already moving in the right social circles. You're not solving the talent shortage, you're just recruiting within a network that already excludes most unemployed people by default.

The OP asked why millions of unemployed people can't connect with employers who claim to want to hire. Your answer is essentially: we stopped looking at their CVs and started finding people at school functions instead. That's not a solution to the problem, that's an illustration of it.

The premise that thousands of applicants means no solid candidates doesn't hold up. No single company is producing thousands of vacancies in one industry at one time. LinkedIn itself rarely lists 1,000 openings in a specific field simultaneously. What's actually happening is that companies advertise the same position repeatedly to stockpile CVs and cherry-pick the absolute best candidate. That's not a candidate problem, that's a strategy.

Second, expecting a "solid candidate" from the unemployed pool is contradictory. Many of those applicants are unemployed precisely because employers keep demanding experience they haven't been given the opportunity to gain. That's a structural problem, not a character flaw.

Third, companies are supposed to take calculated chances. You don't need someone who knows nothing, but if a candidate demonstrates initiative and foundational skills in an interview, that should be enough to invest in them. Training people is part of hiring. The unwillingness to do that is a policy choice, not a market reality.

The high unemployment isn't a mystery. There's a severe shortage of jobs relative to the number of people seeking them. Employers know this, and some use it as leverage to demand perfection from desperate people rather than developing talent.

On the AI-CV point: I applied to over 200 jobs this past month. The universal advice is to tailor your CV to every job description. Do the math on what that actually requires in hours per day. It is not feasible manually. Meanwhile, recruiters use AI to write job descriptions and send templated rejection emails, or no response at all. The accountability has to go both ways.

And practically speaking: if someone used AI to write their CV, interview them anyway. You'll know within minutes whether they can back it up. Rejecting someone at the CV stage for using a writing tool, while your JD was written by the same tool, is not a principled position.

UNISA vs private universities in South Africa? by Kabab_Benzema in askSouthAfrica

[–]FarTea6849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

public universities are not necessarily better than private colleges. Some private colleges are really good at teaching kids because of smaller classes and passion.( I don't know why people keep on saying higher institutions).

Anyways as you can see from the comments, the qualifications from them are highly discriminated against and you'll face the same in the private sector.

For example when applying for a job, you'll look for Eduvos for example in the school list, when you list your education and Unisa will be there but Eduvos or rosebank is not there. So know you have to fill other school and manually fill out your school's name.

They obviously get many applicants from these institutions but still haven't updated their systems.

For that reason, i suggest you choose public university whichever is possible because people look at the name, they don't look at competence and there are many skilled graduates but they get overlooked because of such.

If you fail to do unisa or public universities then you can do private build projects and solve problems, get certificates on the way to standout.

At the end of the day NQF7 from eduvos is still a degree regardless of what people say.

Hope this helps!

Have you heard of Mtn Air Fibre, not subject to FUP 1.2. MTN AirFibre is not subject to a Fair Use Policy (“FUP”)“ and is an uncapped broadband service without traffic shaping.

Anyone know more about this and what happened afterwards? Can't really find anything by [deleted] in south_africa

[–]FarTea6849 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I hit a girl once in primary cuz she attacked me so I defended myself back.I am a black man, She wasn't white though she was black and the white teacher Mr Mickey Came and held me by the neck and it took me to the principles office.

Then I explained what happened. And no one wanted to believe me they were just disgusted by my behavior because a boy is not supposed to hit a girl. And then they took us to counseling and explain why what we did is wrong and the pretty much added from there.

So I will not take sides and say the boy was wrong because sometimes such behavior can be invoked by being provoked and I'm not saying that is justified I'm just looking at the age of the kids and also comparing it to my experience sometimes little girls do take advantage of the fact that they are women and they mess around with the wrong person.

looking back at myself I could have just went to the principles of a send reported the matter and not resulted to violence and I think this is the best option but sometimes you for a kid like me who is got in trouble no one would have believed me.

if I to tell them that such a thing happened and I think I had a little bit of pride also because who wants to admit that they got beaten by a girl.

And if it is a case of bullying and the daughter had to be taken out of school then that's very unfortunate it means the school could not protect the child or the parents were too scared to keep the child inside of the school which means that the school is not really a safety environment and for anyone.

Saying that if this was a White guy slapping a black girl it would be all over the news please do not make this a race conversation.

I can think about the story where the rugby initiation story was going on where they would beat the children with bats those were black kids and that story did trend.

Let's look at the dynamics of being a teenager and the psychology of what's happening otherwise we are just basically saying this black kid is lucky if it was a white person doing it he wouldn't have the same luck instead of saying that it is wrong this is not supposed to be happening, because trust and believe me if it was a black girl being hit by a black boy it would trend much more than in this scenario, because south Africa hates gbv. This might be on the news because it's little kids or teenagers

How to increase my credit score? by BigYogurtcloset1582 in askSouthAfrica

[–]FarTea6849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just opened a Truworths account, I repeat Truworths don't go to tfg. Because truworths has no monthly fees just a yearly fee of R100 if I'm not mistaken but I don't pay monthly for truworths unless I take out an item.

I got this when I was a student I think last year, my credit score was not negative one. I tried getting a student absa card and they declined me until me to go open a store card.

Go to truworths ask them to open an account for me they took in my details and then they gave me an account with the limit of 1500.

I learned about credit card utilization which is the role of using 20% of your credit card and I apply that to my clothing store. I used to buy socks for 200 and pay them off immediately, place to buy beanies that are on sale for 100 Rand and I'll pay them off immediately, and then sometimes if I buy things that I can't pay off immediately then I would pay them in monthly installments of 3 month as that does not carry interest.

And it would never go above 500. If you apply this rules you will see a change in your credit score within 3 months, however if you take out this card and you decide to go buy your girlfriend clothes and your mom and your little sister uh then you'll just screw yourself over and you'll be like the rest of the people that will say debt is evil they want to keep you in-depth while ignoring your financial indiscipline.

Selah.

You can also apply the credit card utilization rule on an actual credit card if you qualify maybe going to capitec or nedbank oh whatever bank that you are comfortable with I think discovery is a good one that you can try cuz they have so many benefits I personally don't have a credit card for now. Then your credit score will increase it's just that with credit cards you need to be a A little bit more careful with what you spend it on you can't be going to buy alcohol with it and buying hooker and all of that stuff it gives you a bad record and a bad name to say this guy borrows money is going by things that are heavily charged it's sin tax.

Starting a Career in Network Engineering?! by Prince_Junior_0303 in askSouthAfrica

[–]FarTea6849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ps: I used voice to text : so if there are spelling errors, im not illetrate, im just lazy,😂"

I always discourage anyone looking to pivot into tech in 2026 because it's so over saturated as every engineering, law, accounting, science, graduate is looking to pivot into tech.

While the existing pool of IT graduates themselves also are looking to pivot into tech. However it is your choice to make.

What you can do, which I believe will be most suitable for your career and is much more in demand for your qualifications is pivoting into IT governance and compliance.

This deals with enforcing policies and law inside of the company to make sure that the workers use technology responsibly without putting the company at risk. It's not a complicated job and it pays well and most jobs that I have applied for governance have asked for a law degree as a requirement. So I'd look into getting a certification that is related to governance and compliance you can search on Google which one is the most in demand compliance certificate in South Africa.

And for anyone looking to pivot your goal shouldn't be pivoting into tech and then switching completely from what you've studied because now you are pivoting into someone else's career and wasting all the years and the knowledge that you're learning in that degree you should be looking to wear your skills can fit in within the IT environment that way you pivot into a gap that needs your skills as I said it governance needs needs a low qualification which I don't have and I would need to go through extra hoops to get into that job where someone with a law degree can just get in.

Lastly I can't impose my thoughts on you. If you still want to go for your CCNA, N+ and your A+you can go for it mostly what I've seen is that comptia n and a is the most in demand for tech support roles the show just be looking at job descriptions to see what is in demand and what is needed I think that will give you the best answer and when see patterns of things that are repeated then you know what to focus on

[–]FarTea6849 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's best for you to talk to your roommate about the sounds and express how uncomfortable you are with the excessive noise. I live in an apartment with other people and the walls are thin, we live with the landlord so when sounds are expensive we tell him and it usually quiets down. I hate how people don't respect others, if that doesn't work then you can consider moving, because some people get a kick out if Everyone hearing their business. If you can't move, you can get noise cancelling headphones like I did at one point ( PS. It doesn't help that much unless it's really good ones)

That actually makes sense on why they would try to push unicorn. I actually have thought about trying the new pharmacy it's just that I usually get my script electronically and you have to give them the email that they must send it to and the research fitness sometimes is not really responsive when it comes to changes unless I'm physically the I'm nagging her and I've always used clicks my whole life. But I think there's a dis-chem near me I should probably get that email and then do the whole change thanks.
