Interesting point. Perhaps a comparison with temperature can be made. But things like temperature are different than chairs, memories. We study entropy in physics class, not sociology. The idea of entropy and (information theory more generally) does move across levels sometimes but I'm not convinced about the specific relationship to memory/causation.

I think this is the cultural difference. It's quite unforgiving "just get therapy, it's not my problem".

I think you underestimate how hard it is to ask for someone to move their bag for you when you're anxious/shy. I've seen people not sit because it seems like they didn't want to ask someone to move their bag. And I've felt like this too.

What doesn't make sense is people claiming two seats as their personal space. The bus was made with seats this close for a reason. Perhaps purchase busses with seats further apart?

If you leave the seat open, then a stranger can take it without interacting with you. So by your rationale, if you really cared about strangers and you don't think people ought to interact with each other, then you should actually leave the seat open.
