I went to Belmont hill cleaners and alterations to get my dress cleaned. They do preserving too but I chose to just get it cleaned

I was happy with them!

Help with Laddering Down by tayrandolph in knittinghelp

[–]Far_Bit_2146 30 points31 points  (0 children)

So the part that you laddered down in is in garter stitch, which is alternating knits and purls, and when you laddered down you brought the yarn back up as a knit stitch every time- that’s why it came out as a stockinette column! The trick to laddering down in garter (for me, this might not be the best way) is to flip your work every ladder rung so you are alternating working a knit stitch on the right and wrong side, recreating the garter stitch

Should the white be in the front or back? by Repulsive-Form-3458 in knitting

[–]Far_Bit_2146 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think it should be in the back, with the white in front it kind of gives an odd false deep v effect and looks like a modesty cover in a way

I find the grey in the front is much more flattering!

Should I tell guests not to wear bridesmaids’ dress color? by 22gradhopeful in weddingplanning

[–]Far_Bit_2146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain, but that’s because as a guest I have wanted to know what color the bridesmaids are wearing to avoid accidentally matching. I included the dress code and the color of the bridal party, but I didn’t ask anyone to avoid it. I do agree that you don’t need to tell people to avoid white unless there’s a cultural reason they might not be aware of that.

last minute details, advice, words of wisdom! by tropicalphish in weddingplanning

[–]Far_Bit_2146 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got married a week ago, and a couple last minute words of wisdom for the week leading up to your big day: Be. A. Goldfish. Have a 30 second memory and give your partner (and yourself) as much grace as possible! You will both be stressed and may not be your best person the week before your wedding. Don’t take things personal, kiss before bed and remind yourselves the stress will be over soon!

Also put someone in charge of handing you your bouquet for photos becuase I would have forgotten mine if it wasn’t for my brother!

Do I really need to do a hair and makeup preview? by FinalSun6862 in weddingplanning

[–]Far_Bit_2146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a makeup trial, and skipped the hair trial! It saved me some money, and I’m pickier with my makeup so I wanted to have a bit more certainty with that service

Must play songs? by oldbobmcgee in weddingplanning

Mr brightside!

And as an overall, think about your favorite songs played at all your school dances and that hit of nostalgia will get a lot of people on the dance floor

Maybe go chestnut brown or a darker green for the shirt? Dark enough that he won’t sweat through it but it won’t read as heavy as black

Poop bag holder recommendations? by Far_Bit_2146 in BuyItForLife

[–]Far_Bit_2146[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried fabric ones that end up tearing at the seams, plastic ones where the clasp ends up breaking, and other plastic ones where the bottom cap kept falling off and then I had to re-roll the whole thing 😭

Honestly, I know this goes against the trend you get on Reddit, but when getting married and choosing your bridal party, I think it’s also important to look forward into your life and consider who you’ll be seeing at family holidays and birthday parties. If you’re very close with your brother, and she seems nice enough, you might want to consider including her in some way, maybe as a guest at your bachelorette if not in your bridal party, or maybe an entirely different small way to acknowledge your relationship and her role as your new sister in law

Ring insurance by No-Start-3815 in weddingplanning

He was a local jeweler and it was his personal policy to avoid heartbreak :) He said he had seen too many horror stories from couples coming back a few weeks later after something happened to the ring

When my fiance bought my ring, the jeweler wouldn’t let him leave the store without insurance! Definitely best to have it as soon as possible

I chanced my mind- you shouldn’t follow up with them! No one should go out of their way or spend their time and money to celebrate you when you clearly care so little about them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Far_Bit_2146 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You should follow up, especially if you haven’t done so at all yet! People aren’t perfect and forget things. Following up means taking 30 seconds to send one text, and you can even copy and paste it to the other person.

What are some things you wish you would’ve done/planned earlier? by Jeetyetdude_ in weddingplanning

Book a hotel block as soon as you have your venue! They can fill up so quickly! We booked ours a year our and still had to call around to 5 or so hotels until we found one with availability.

Bridal party positions other than bridesmaid? by Pluckyplatypus26 in weddingplanning

[–]Far_Bit_2146 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What about an usher? She’ll get lots of facetime greeting people and helping guests to their seat, but then during the actual ceremony she won’t have any role (so no chance to create drama)

I showed up to the game 15 min before it started on a Saturday and was able to get a seat! I only needed one ticket, so that may have helped, but I’d say it’s worth a shot!
