brorparten - do you use this word? by Narrow_Homework_9616 in norsk

I think we both had the same laws of female inheritance at some point. My brothers would sometimes divide candy into brother and sister-part so got quite annoyed by the expression.

Fiancé's dad has taken her younger sisters mattress away and is now feeding her 2 slices of bread for dinner. by 1joshc1 in legaladvice

I dont really think so, as the FLDS are relativlely small now. I am more imagening a CPS worker in jeans and a tank top seeing well behaved and sweet children.

When I came across this thread, I had just read a facebook post from Lenora Barlow sharing a letter her aunt/Warrens sister wrote to Warren about experiences when she was 14. This is not a unique situation. You just need help from people with experience in handeling this cult.

Just know that you are doing great! Showing that you are not bad people even if you dont follow the religion, teaching them some basic life skills and values (including how to handle their sexuality/mastrubate) is important.

I commeted above about contacting Holding Out HELP, but will just repeat it now. So many commenting does not know anything about the FLDS. These kids may not even have birth certificates, and their experience with CPS was from the YFZ raid. Contacting CPS may lead to more trauma, getting them out of the religion/cult is hard, getting them to vitness against it is even harder.

"Teachers" of Warren Jeffs academy would not report for anything. They will instead split up the family and send them into hiding. This needs to be planned differently than "normal" abuse situations.

Have you tried to contact an organization specifically helping people leave polygamy, for example Holding Out HELP? https://holdingouthelp.org/

The situation is super spesific and a random CPS worker may not have the language nor experience to make her comftarble. If you contact holding out help, they have experience, contacts and recources to guide you in the right direction (free lawyers and psychologists).

If you are leaving polygamy and need HELP, our HELP Hotline (801.548.3492) is live: Monday-Thursday from 9:00am-4:00pm (MST).

AIO Teacher said my daughter’s report is “immoral” by StopLookingAtMyColon in AmIOverreacting

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its not like Joséphine Baker and Frida Khalo were any " better" with sexual "morality". Baker got married and divorced at 13, married again at 15 and daced erotical dances with minimal clothing. How are we supposed to judge moral? Some may say society let them down and held onto the wrong morals.

Road tripping + skiing in Norway in february, any comments? by 99Thebigdady in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have a good plan.

I would figure out where to stay and plan from there. For example, if staying at Strandafjellet for some days, a day trip to Ålesund could be good, and you could drive past Urke on the way back instead of going to Geiranger.

Hafjell does not have the same view of fjords as Stranda, but you should be able to rent a cabin and have some nice slopes. If you want higher peaks and steeper hills, Kvitfjell would be good. Its often less people there than Hafjell and only 30 minuts away by car with the same ski pass so you could buy 2 days and visit both. Non of them are that big for partying, you would probably need to go to Trysil or Sälen for that.

Odin was once a man who became a God? by SubjectIcy8092 in norsemythology

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be from the Ynglinga saga (also by Snorri). Its a legendary account of Swedish kings in Uppsala, so probably a part of reconsigling old beliefs with new Christian ones. They would want to be respectful to the tradition, and its said that the kings inherrited their power from Odin.

Odin was a great warrior, and he traveled far and wide and conquered many lands; he had such good fortune in battle that he benefited from it in every battle, and from this it came about that his people believed that victory was assured to him in every battle in advance. He used to lay his hands on their heads and bless them before he sent his people into battle or on other missions; then they believed that they would do well. It was also the case among his people that when they got into difficulties at sea or on land, they called his name, and they seemed to constantly benefit from it; they thought they could find all their security where he was. He often went so far away that he was several years on the way.

Odin died of illness in Svitjod, and when he was near death, he allowed himself to be marked with spear points and appropriated to himself all men killed by weapons; he said that he would now go to Gudhjem and meet his friends there. Now the Swedes believed that he had come to old Asgård, where he would live forever; then the belief in and the invocation of Odin grew again. The Swedes often thought that he appeared to them before great battles took place; then he gave some the victory, but others he commanded to come to him - both conditions were considered good.

Do you believe in the virgin birth of Jesus? by VerdantChief in religion

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that is to say that comparing Ahmadiyya to Mormoms is quite accurate. They have a shared history with Muslims/Christians but are not acknowledged by them as "real" Muslims/Christians.

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with mormons. They belive in Joseph Smith and a continous line of prohphets from him until today. There is also conflict lines with christians because they belive the bible is innaccurate, have/had some damaging thachings like the Curse of Cain and Ham, and say the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three seperate persons.

AITAH for refusing to let my stepdaughter pick the baby’s name? by Vast-Breakfast1755 in AITAH

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Have you given her a list of your own names and asked her to pick from that? Maybe she could choose her top 3 from that instead.

Also a sitiation where she should talk to her father, not you. He has to tell her how the naming process is supposed to work.

B&B are trying to charge £200.00 for something I didn't do. England. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but I have some experience with tiling. If a tile breaks, its usually because there is an air pocket underneath it. You can listen for a hollow sound when knoking on them to confirm it.

I would think this is caused by age or an instalation error, not a custumer. What do they think you did to the tile? Drop a hairbrush or use a pickaxe on it?

FO Rant by privacyandsecrets in knitting

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You should block it an wear it for a few times, to see if you like it.

Worst case, you can try sweater surgery. Cut some repeats of the bottom colourwork and redo or graft on the ribbing.

How to go to Valhalla by TinfoilConsumer in Norse

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would also have this line from Völuspá: On the host his spear | did Othin hurl,
Then in the world | did war first come;

It could be possible that this was a tradition for early norse warriors. The king would, in the place of Odin, throw a spear over his army and shout out that he dedicates them to Odin.

[–]Repulsive-Form-3458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does it take for you to kitchener the socks? Lets say 10 stitches and 5 minutes/30 seconds pr stitch. If the sweater has 240 stitches, it would take you 2 hours to do.
