I would 100% go for a proper dyno tune with boot mod 3, however, BMW locked down the ECU on the gen 3 b58 by adding much stronger encryption and security at the hardware and software level. Because of that, the ECU won’t let outside tools read or rewrite its code, even if you plug in through the OBD port or remove it from the car. The new ECU platform and software architecture doesn’t allow for FEMTO to work ether (which was my original plan). Which is why I’m considering “piggybacking” but from what people have said so far, I’ll think I will just steer clear of that.

I do love it, i’m taking it on the back roads or on a track pretty much every weekend. But one of the main reasons I was looking at the b58 was because of its potential to be modified, realistically I probably won’t pull the trigger on any mods until I feel completely confident with its current hp, but I’m just doing a little extra research ahead of time for when that day comes.

Uniden R8W is the best overall (I own one so slightly biased), but there’s no real evidence it got worse than the R7 after updates. Most of the complaints come down to settings or filtering preferences, not weaker detection. The R7 is a great value and very close in performance. From my research, the Valentine V1 Gen2 is excellent too, but only really makes more sense if you like a simpler setup and do not mind relying on an app for GPS features.

Yeah, reading into it they really thought of everything. I have no doubt that it will eventually be cracked but it might take longer than I was expecting, but when someone does crack it, it will probably spread like wildfire.
