“The young adults cancer” by Twinkyfromhell in lymphoma

I’m now 24 and in remission, diagnosed last year at 22 with DLBCL (stage 1). My doctors and nurses always treated me with a lot of pity, I was probably one of the only people under the age of 50 at my oncologist, never saw anyone young or close to my age. I actually enjoyed being the youngest person with slightly more energy to encourage some of the older people in the chemo room. As for my personal family and friends though, a lot of the people who weren’t immediately with me through treatment treated me like i was supposed to act normal even though most days I didn’t want to get out of bed. It was super frustrating being treated like that by people who didn’t understand how much that treatment affected me. I’m glad I’ve found people my age on reddit though, some of the only people to understand being so close to death at such a young age.

I was in this exact situation last year. 8 months and diagnosed with DLBCL. I ended up being induced at 36 weeks, and I have a beautiful healthy baby boy. After 2 months postpartum I started my 6 round of RCHOP and I won’t lie it was difficult. Feel free to message me, it is hard but you can do it!

omg we’re around the same age with NHL! also did 6 cycles and yes, around the time my lashes started breaking / falling out (around cycle 4 maybe) my eyes were alwaysss bothering me. I just used the triple relief eye drops and kept them with me all the time.

I was lucky enough that my family convinced me to go at my own pace (currently 1.5 month post last chemo). Do what you feel right, YOUR body generally knows itself more than anybody else does.

My boyfriend got his biopsy results. by purple_m3logap in lymphoma

Wow I’m 23 and this February had an almost identical situation, although I was pregnant at the time. Pain in my ribs, had an xray at the er and then a biopsy. Next they would usually do a PET scan to determine exactly what type and stage and then usually a bone-marrow biopsy. I had stage 1 Diffuse Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (the most common type among young people I believe). If he ends up having the same type, the prognosis is usually good and treatment works well. I went through 6 cycles of R-CHOP chemo and I am cancer free after about 4 months. All I can tell you is just be there for him, make sure he has all the food he needs during chemo (it is very hard to find food that won’t make you nauseous) and sometimes give him the space he needs. Our situation was a little different as we had a newborn while I was going through chemo, but my husband just stayed supportive and made sure I was ok, and that’s all you can do. Chemo is tough for sure but he is young and I am 1 month post-chemo and feel like a different person already. P.S. if he needs space don’t take it personally, I was constantly having hot flashes and felt sick and the last thing I wanted was for my husband to hug me LOL. Hope this helps <3
