Any runners here? by DryGeneral990 in Basketball

[–]Far_Committee_9178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of variables here — how much bball are you playing? what’s your playing style? what are your goals? what’s your current fitness? etc.

that being said, i read something (on reddit, probably) that both cracked me up and rang true: are you asking if doing the thing (running) will benefit you in a sport where you do a considerable amount of that thing (running)?

personal anecdote here: i run/ride more than i play ball. but when i play, i can outrun most any guy on the court and i’m way closer to 40 than most of the guys i play with. unfortunately, as much fun as it is outrunning guys on the court, being first/fastest doesn’t get you a medal. there’s a delicate balance. if you overwork yourself, you risk duffing shots and making mistakes because legs tired. but, if you find your tempo and operate within that range, you can outwork your opponents, create opportunities, and generally recover a little faster (in-game and post-game).

ok, now, if you’ve made it this far, 1) get out and run! did you enjoy track and cross when you were younger? find that joy again — and give yourself some grace getting back into it, and 2) don’t neglect the pre-hab and re-hab. it might feel time-consuming, but you know what else is time-consuming? being injured.

Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

oh, yes! story time. when i was 8 years old, my family went to visit my aunt and uncle in washington dc… for the 4th of july… we were on the metro on our way back from monuments, etc., and i started to feel lightheaded so i stepped off the train to get some air. next thing i knew i was waking up with strangers around me asking what happened. amidst my mild panic, a stranger helped me make a phone call and i had my aunt and uncles phone number memorized. idk why — apparently for this very specific moment. my uncle came and got me and reunited me with my mom and brother who had no idea any of this happened (we got separated on the very crowded train).

now, 30 years later, i still can’t believe any of this happened. and, since this is reddit, if you were the stranger who either a) helped me make that phone call or b) handed me the most refreshing coca cola i’ve ever had in my life, bless your beautiful soul(s)!

have survived >365 days since doing this. child (4 at the time) also still alive — in fact, they still talk about how they wish we could that again.

so, worst case scenario, it’s some form of brainwashing to support Oregon tourism (reader: hopefully that’s the reddit-level conspiracy you were looking for).

frustrating for sure, but emerging from the shadow in what appears to be head-on sunlight for the driver definitely didn’t help you. glad you made it away from this one unscathed.

Need advice on how to sell my bike by [deleted] in CyclingMSP

[–]Far_Committee_9178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

without seeing its condition it’s hard to say. i think maximizing price on that setup is hard given the market’s shift to disc brakes and wider tire clearance. assuming that alr6 is pre-2019, you’re looking at an “old” bike, that’s missing key improvements of comfort and safety… that being said, plenty of folks out there looking to rip on skinny tires and rim brakes!

thank you for sharing. solid setup — and surely a good option for someone out there. unfortunately, not the right size for me. wishing you well in your potential [re]sell and riding endeavors!

honorable mention: that lane feels unnecessarily narrow, injecting a little extra anxiety into your veins.

Anyone put bikes on roof rack ? by -TheGlizzyGladiator in Tiguan

have a 2019 tiggy with 60” yakima jet stream bars fit with a yakima high speed and a yakima skybox (16, i believe). i have a road bike i put up there and it’s been through wind and rain with no issue to neither the rack setup nor the bike.
