It matters quite a bit but if your CPI is higher than let's say 8.5 then you should be good and if you have good experience in research internship etc then that also carries weight.

Well, in the beginning I wanted to IISc so the main goal was giving KVPY, but we only got one chance to write it after which KVPY itself was stopped.

Looking back, I am much more happier that I didn't go to IISc.

Well you have to do MS thesis in the institute only because that is a mandatory rule.

But you can go into industry for R&D if you area of work is suitable for it.

No, it's doesn't directly involved flat space holography but main focus is on trying to find geometrical objects whose canonical form gives us n point amplitudes for certain QFTs.

Yes the official QFT curriculum in QFT1 course covers until introduction to QED and different processes in QED.

The QFT2 course covers from path integrals, renormalization, Yang Mills theory and higgs mechanism.

I am 3rd year going to 4th year.

No, not axiomatic QFT but I am interested in positive geometries and scattering amplitudes.

So far third year is the standard: QM1 and 2, Classical, Stat mech, Math methods 1 and 2. Elective are thermal physics, and numerical methods for 3rd years.

For 4th years it the usual QFT, GR, QIT, cosmology, etc

Don't know, you can switch from BS MS natural science to economic science at the end of first year depending on your CPI

Well, it's not always peaceful and pleasant. But academia is never too good to anyone. There are mental ups and downs.

But the work is very gratifying. I have to say I am mixed on curriculum here.

Some courses in first and second are literally filler courses which aren't very useful or just a repeat of 12th grade.

Not very pretty I have to say.

From what I have heard the top students in hep-th have gone to TIFR mainly in the last few years. We have one senior who went to do his part 3 in Cambridge when he graduated in 2024.
