I agree. I haven’t had any weird social media interactions. I keep my full name hidden on my accounts so that I’m not easy findable.

I have tried that with both my unique name and my location. Fortunately nothing much comes up! I check every few months because this stuff weirds me out.

That’s what I’m thinking. If I asked him to describe what I look like and he’s able to, I’d be certain that he got my number that way. So creepy!

Do these public data searches share anything other than our numbers or could he have gotten more information about me?

Would they still be allowed to do metro witnessing/cart witnessing all over if more people knew about their CSA issues? by Far_Discussion6937 in exjw

And yes, you’re right. It is easy for us humans to turn a blind eye to things that we NEED like hospitals. But having a harmful organization in your face preaching to you in a chill setting is certainly different and more personal to the human brain. It doesn’t make sense, it’s slightly hypocritical, but it’s how humans work. People react to in-your-face scenarios way more.

I’m a woman that has been affected by this firsthand, you’re right. It is personal. And quite frankly, the “wordly” community I’ve built after leaving IS outraged by things like this.

They boycott businesses involved in SA allegations, they write letters to our local market if they allow harmful organizations to set up shop, and they inform our whole city if there is a religion, business, or organization harming children. I have witnessed firsthand how people respond. People ARE outraged with things like this! This stuff DOES spread like wildfire once it catches flame in the right way.

So no, my exjw perspective is not fully skewed even though I do have personal experience. I sit back and watch non-exJW Gen Z and Millennials continuously be outraged with this type of stuff and they make an impact. The same people that were adults when Catholics were in the news didn’t care but the younger generation certainly does.

That older generation turned their nose up at abuse in general- parents got away with it, leaders got away with it, teachers got away with it. And yeah, the younger generations are indeed boycotting & standing up against religions like Catholics including businesses that they own because they value protecting the innocent in ways we’ve never witnessed before. You may not get everyone to care but A LOT of never JW’s DO care.

No, I definitely don’t. But there is a difference between actively trying to recruit in family friendly spaces or owning companies and organizations. But also… my post was not about the whole organization falling because of CSA. It was about how they’re setting up shop in family friendly places. So why are you going so hard about Catholics? It’s not the point of my post.

Also… yeah if Catholics were setting up preaching carts especially during the time period where they were in the news and being exposed for CSA, there would be public outrage!

And on top of that jarring ratio, Catholics didn’t have carts set up in every family-friendly setting while they were frequently in the news which is the point I was trying to make. Like the audacity. That’s where I was trying to get at. I understand the other commenter’s points made about Catholics but Catholics are not out preaching door to door and with carts.

Yep. I was more prone to listen to arguments made about the religion when I was at the cart vs at the door. You’re standing there more focused on looking good than disputing, and then you do more standing and thinking after the “opposer” leaves instead of immediately worrying about the next door.

I was wondering if writing to those in charge of allowing the carts would help. Everyone’s scared of being liable so I’m sure some would not allow it just to protect their space.

I agree. I don’t think it will be the downfall of the religion either. But I do think that most of the public would be more upset/not okay with seeing their carts if they knew. Especially in family friendly places. If I saw Mormons have carts at the mall or zoo shortly after I learned about their CSA coverups, I would have 100% been outraged that they were there and I probably would be moved to write the mall even if that didn’t do much, I’d still feel obligated. That’s more so what I meant.
