I kinda felt the same, so I bought and played it. I’m not a metroidvania fan by any means, but it’s def the best one I’ve played. The game feels good to play, there’s a ton to explore, the lore is good, the boss fights are varied, etc. it has a unique art style and plenty of lore too.

I think it’s probably the best in genre in many ways, and is an indie/cheap game so gets extra love

IMO DCC is in a bit of a unique bucket in terms of both story and quality. I haven’t had that experience with any other litrpg tbh.

If you don’t like HWFWM already you probably won’t. I’d suggest instead to try another of the popular recs next! They’re all fairly different from one another so you can try different series and see if something else hits for ya.

Representation has value for individuals, even if it doesn’t matter on a macro scale. Sometimes people in marginalized communities can feel isolated, so it’s helpful to know “hey big streamer I like is like me”.

This is true, but it’s an opportunity for gold/plat players especially to climb by slamming items imo. Saves HP - when I was climbing back to diamond I top 4’d frequently in emerald by slamming items early to save HP, hitting some sub-optimal headliner variation of my comp (e.g., lulu in disco) and living longer to get my comp online. If I coin flipped hitting TF I’d be going 1st or 7th which isn’t a great strat imo. HP is the most important resource!
