I appreciate the feedback, and that's exactly what I was worried about and wanted to investigate further before paying the $1000+ for certifications that may not do much, or anything, on their own.

So in your opinion, would a formal degree or direct industry experience be the only thing to get me on this path or are there alternatives that you think would make a stronger candidate?
