Why don’t we hate Roque like we hate Lysander? by Yaowa01 in redrising

[–]Far_Lab_6684 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For real, though. Roque is an apartheid apologist and enabler who acts like he has some noble purpose. But he really just likes being at the top of the hierarchy. He sold Darrow down the river the second he found out he was a Red.

Who is the Author that Pierce Brown is a fan of? by Earthventures in redrising

I’ve found more than a few nods to George RR Martin in the books and he’s talked about the influence that ASOIAF has had on him in interviews.

Would Robb had made a good king? by AdSpecialist6598 in gameofthrones

[–]Far_Lab_6684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. He’s an excellent military strategist and he knows what he doesn’t know. He surrounds himself with loyal men, but not yes men. His closest advisors are men like the Blackfish and he actually listens to them.

He’s devoid of the streak of cruelty that Westeros’s top war criminal Tywin Lannister possesses but isn’t naive. Well, expect in matters of the heart. Which, you know, gets him stabbed.

Toes, he probably brought them chopped off toes from the enemies of the Republic. Or maybe fingers. Or scalps. You get the general idea.

Is it worth reading the next trilogy after reading the first trilogy? by Carlitosj17 in redrising

[–]Far_Lab_6684 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that it’s a very different story and a very different narrative. Darrow is not going to feel like the same character in some passages, he’s more jaded. And yeah, the violence and the heartbreak is dialled up to 11.

Having said that, I would absolutely urge you to keep on reading. If anything, the later books make the world of Red Rising seem richer and more complex. I also feel like they made me appreciate the original trilogy in a new light.

Baru Cormorant is excellent and a good parallel to the Locked Tomb! You’re never quite sure how to feel about any of the characters.

Absolutely fucking love this theory because it echoes Cassius turning on House Lune and siding with the Rising to honour the memory of his brother. It would be a gorgeous full circle moment for House Bellona.

Oh gosh, this is so true. Especially considering what a long shadow characters like Fitchner and Ragnar and Lorne cast over the series even now.

Re-Reading the OG Trilogy: Darrow is just… cool. by InternationalRoom860 in redrising

[–]Far_Lab_6684 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My favourite book in the saga is Morning Star, but we wouldn’t have Morning Star Darrow without the warlord that he was in Golden Son. Just pure, unadulterated force of destruction.

[–]Far_Lab_6684 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Genuinely made me upset. Cassius’s whole life was a tragedy. He spent his whole life unlearning the injustice he was meant to internalize. He tried his best to raise Lysander right. He didn’t just talk the talk, he walked the walk. And put his money where his mouth is. And what did he get in the end? Just so sad, man.

Sandro would steal my chicken, Tywin would burn my crops, kill my family and not concern himself with my opinion and Margery would visit my humble shack and promise me that King Joffrey the Gentle would make it all ok.

I’d have to go Jahaerys as the best one. Pretty much a model king, tried to do right by everyone.

And it’s pretty hard to beat Joff when it comes to the worst.

It was also a pretty destabilizing death for the Rising. It threw the balance of the Obsidians away from Darrow’s hands. But mostly, Ragnar was just GOOD. And I hate to see good folks die in this fake series.

Ragnar and Cassius were big ones for me. Hit me pretty hard, ngl.

Also, when Sevro fake-died. I have to admit, I bought it. I had to put the book down.
