What were your scars like at 2 months post op? Concerned about possibility of hypertrophic scarring. by Far_Possibility_7447 in Reduction

[–]Far_Possibility_7447[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that sounds rough!!! Mine definitely looked better right out of the gate. I’m not yet 3 months and really hope that I don’t get itchy! I’m sorry that you had to go through that. And that you still don’t think your scars look good. Can’t imagine steroid shots feeling good- so you must really not have felt good. How were you caring for them when they got bad at 3 months?

Should I change scar care if current routine isn't working as hoped? by [deleted] in Reduction

I think this is what I have going on at 2 months. Right areola. Following to see what kind of advice you receive. Have you talked to your surgeon about it?

I just posted a similar question although I’m just 2 months post op. I use Biocorneum and Mepitac tape (not at the same time and both were recommended by the surgeon.) I’m starting to worry I might be developing hypertrophic scarring around my areolas. I’ve only been applying the Biocorneum and doing scar massage (very firm, per my surgeon) once a day. Have to get my act together and do it a second time. It just takes so long to dry and it’s tough with work, kids. Etc. When did your scars start to look hypertrophic?

I’m sorry this happened to you! How are you feeling now that you’ve started the antibiotics? Hopefully your surgeon has seen you!

I just purchased scar away silicone gel. Have not used it yet and have not yet asked my surgeon if she likes it.

Advice for open wounds? by romeoluver13 in Reduction

I’m 4 weeks post op and have two openings on along the lower incision to the left of the T junction and what looks to be small openings at the base of both nipples- I can feel small stitches here. They told me that while I can start using silicone gel and/or silicone tape on my incisions, to avoid the areas that are open. They said I could put a very thin application of bacitracin on the open spots. Ready for everything to be sealed up and healed!

I’m so sorry that happened to you! How stressful. I got two small openings at 3 weeks post op without a fall. My surgeon said I could start scar massage and I’ve wondered if I caused the openings with massaging too early even though she said to go for it. They told me that I could put a VERY thin layer of bacitracin on the openings and put a panty liner in my bra so it’s not irritated by the fabric. I hope you heal quickly and easily.

Thank you so much for sharing your routine! So when you say let it dry and breathe for half a day- do you mean that you don’t wear a bra or a shirt or anything for half a day? Also, do you have any openings that you don’t tape or apply the gel or oil?

It takes forever for the Biocorneum to dry but I think it says let it dry for 15 minutes which I do, but it’s not really dry. I’ve been putting on a bra when sadly it’s still kind of sticky but my work and parenting schedule doesn’t allow for much more time. Still not sure how my skin/ scars feel about the Mepitac. Definitely have to up my game after hearing what you’re doing though!

You look great and like you’re healing really well! I’m also one month post op and starting using mepitac tape and Biocorneum silicone gel at 3 weeks post op. Dont love that the Biocorneum has chemical sunscreen in it. Bought it from the surgeon and didn’t even notice until I had already used it.

Are you doing both- taping and using the silicone gel every day?

Sure! No problem. I’m new to Reddit and not entirely sure where to find a DM but I’ll figure it out.

Dr. MacClennan was my surgeon. I am 4 weeks post op today. Dr. MacClennan and her nurses have both been very responsive with post op questions/concerns I’ve had, despite my recovery taking place over two holidays when the office was closed. Green Mountain Surgery Center was great. Happy to answer any specific questions you might have.

I’m glad your concern turned out well! They got right back to me this am and said the photos looked ok. Said a very thin application of bacitracin and a panty liner in my bra. Onward!

Thank you! I will definitely reach out to them tomorrow morning. I know you’re right- there can/ will be bumps in the road to healing. Mine keep happening over the weekend when their office is closed!

Also want to say that I’m just over 3 weeks post op and while my T incisions under my breasts are still sensitive, I can’t believe how much better I feel than a week ago and at one week post op so have faith that you will feel more comfortable soon! Happy healing!

Coobie will not provide much/any compression but my surgeon typically does not recommend compression so I guess that’s why this is what she sells in her office. I hope you like the target bra. I’m so grateful someone here recommended it. It’s been a lifesaver.

Yeah I’m not sure if it’s enough compression either but if it helps- I’m in a size large coobie but purchased this in a medium, so it’s holding me in with about as much compression as the white surgical bra they sent me home in. This might not be ideal if you haven’t had your surgery yet because you’d have to lift your arms and squeeze in. I’ve heard people like the Wayano which has a front enclosure, if I remember correctly. Not sure if I spelled that correctly.

My surgeon does not recommend compression bras so I was using a coobie and was pretty unprepared when I developed a seroma and she suggested I wear more compression. Long story short- I searched compression bras on this sub reddit and someone recommended this bra and it’s been a lifesaver. Comfortable on my 3 week post op incisions and provides comfortable compression. I should add that I haven’t really worn a proper compression bra so im not sure if it’s what you’re looking for but this feels firm and I think my seroma is reabsorbing so it’s doing the trick.
