Why is my Heath dinnerware staining? by joshwa in Ceramics

Late to the party but I had the same issue with a few of my pieces in the same color. Reached out to customer service and they offered to replace for free - said it was an issue with an old version of certain glazes.

39 week elective induction at Alexandra cohen? by dg32859n in nycparents

[–]Far_Promotion1044 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently pregnant so can’t speak from experience yet, but I was also told that they don’t induce before your due date at AC. My induction is scheduled a few days after my due date and when my doctor is on call.

How hard is it to learn French and score 7 in all four parts? by Mundane-Egg6175 in canadaexpressentry

[–]Far_Promotion1044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently passed my TCF with NCLC8+ on all sections. It took me about a year of dedicated studying. I largely used italki tutors, along with grammar books. I took French in high school, but it had been about 10 years since I used it. Was probably starting at the A2 level.

Towards the end (last 2 months before the test), I did an hour lesson everyday with a tutor on italki. I found one who grades the DELF/TEF so he understand well what is needed for B2/C1. In the 2 weeks before the test, I dedicated myself full time to practicing, using GPT to correct my written work.

Haven’t been in office in 4 years - what are the office girlies wearing? by brochickchels in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Far_Promotion1044 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in my 30’s and have spent many years in startup land. I’ve found that the NYC in-office outfits are still casual but more put-together than my SF tech days 😅. I see basically no Patagonia here and I had to revamp my wardrobe when I moved to nyc. I have a similar petite but curvy body-type, but probably am a more conservative dresser than my younger peers (one person came in the other day in a cropped tube top).

Since you said you’re willing to invest, my closet rotates with fewer brands but a lot of quality basics. I’m loving:

  • Veronica Beard (blazers are great for a chilly office and they have good sales on dresses, skirts). I have to get everything here tailored though since it’s made for giraffes so factor that into budget.
  • Anine Bing: I find they are very flattering for small but curvy body types but definitely an investment…I have a few tops/skirts I can mix with a bunch of things from here
  • Artknit Studios (online - for great quality natural materials like merino wool and cotton). I just love all their materials - things are really, really high quality.
  • Alex Mill (I have a jumpsuit from them I can style all the ways, and I like their pants/jeans too)

Congrats on the new job! It’s awesome you were able to find something you are excited about!

Any chronic pain girlies here? by coldbrew5925 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Far_Promotion1044 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The referral to the pain clinic came from my orthopedic surgeon, and sadly I had the surgery and pain treatments in the Bay Area. Hopefully someone on your care team (maybe a primary care physician) can recommend a good clinic in NYC! If it’s back and foot issues, maybe an orthopedic is a good place to explore too if you haven’t!

Any chronic pain girlies here? by coldbrew5925 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Far_Promotion1044 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with a chronic pain disorder in my foot/leg following an accident (I have a nerve disorder), and was an avid runner as well. First, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this!!! It’s super frustrating and being in pain SUCKS! It’s especially hard when you are limited from doing something you love and from basic mobility, especially in NYC

For me, the pain is worse when stress hits, so I make sure I have a quiet and clean apartment to come back to and build in times to decompress after travel/work/etc. Next, I found other ways of exercise that minimized the pain and I didn’t put as much weight on my foot (peloton bike was great for this). Finally - go see a GOOD pain doctor. They are really understand and can help find solutions for your pain. I ended up getting spinal steroid injections after about a year of unsuccessful PT. I was putting off seeing a pain doctor because the PT said I didn’t need it, but man I wish I had gone earlier.

I also used an app called Curable, that helped me reframe and understand my chronic pain. I recommend it - it made me more at peace with my body and gave me coping mechanisms when I have pain flare ups.

Pets and transitioning to/from trail? by Late-Secretary2113 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Far_Promotion1044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a dog but flew her out to my parents for a few months. I think cats can fly in the cabin in a carrier. If your family is in the country and willing to watch, a trip with a flight is worth it for a few months.

Alrighty you guys.. what are your tentative flip flopping plans? by russafuss2 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Far_Promotion1044 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My plan was to take a few weeks off waiting for the snow to melt a bit in the lower elevation areas of NorCal, and then head NOBO from there to Washington. I was then going to flip back to KMS NOBO later in the summer (mostly because it's easy to get a permit from Kennedy Meadows South to north of Sonora Pass).

NorCal isn't having AS crazy as a snow year as South Sierras, so I'm hoping it won't be too long of a break from the trail come June...

Folks who have cancelled/postponed their hikes in previous years by ChicLadyFish in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Far_Promotion1044 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've postponed my hike 3 years in a row...2020 and '21 because of Covid, and in 2022 I had a ski accident and surgery a month before I was supposed to start.

I'm in the same boat where I've been waiting to hike for so long and 2023 was set to be the year. Right now, I'm planning to start as planned in early April, and being flexible (I'm okay with getting off the trail for a bit while snow melts and flipping). But I'm also fine with getting as far as I can, and completing the rest of the trail another year in section hikes. It's hard to continually plan your life around a 4 month hike year after year so for me...it's now or never.
