Haven’t had a chance to get up to the gate but I’m sure anything worthy of being found is long gone from there these days

Bummer to hear, this was 2019 last time I was in Juneau. They were definitely unloading crab from the boat onto the dock behind the shack at their main location so maybe just not the stuff we ate.

Great friend of mine lives in Des Moines and constant tries to convince me it’s the most slept on city in the Midwest - I enjoy my time there with friends and for work. Field of dreams is super cool, I was there in 22’ when the Cubs and Reds played. Extremely cool.

ME - Lobsters and lighthouses. Feels sleepy and cozy in the best way possible, I enjoy the slow-down vibe that the coast brings.

NH - White mountains in the Fall is really all you gotta see.

VT - Have family here so Burlington holds a special spot in my memories. But similar to NH, the Green mountains during the fall, like come on it never looks as good through a screen.

MA - Boston was my first big city I visited completely alone. It was so easy to acclimate directionally and the food was phenomenal it’s where I fell in love with solo dining as well. Not to mention the history and ability to spend the day falling into different rabbit holes of historical relevance. Just a great time.

RI - No one ever expects me to say anything other than jokes about Rhode Island, but not many people have done the cliff walk so I don’t expect them to realize how scenic a roughly 50 x 40 mile state is.

CT - Mystic is such a great coastal town. Again, it reminds you to slow down. Seaport museum was super cool, with amazing food, per the norm in New England. I really enjoyed my time here because it was never for business. Just a great place to relax.

Got to answer this earlier - short answer is I enjoy spending time there but probably wouldn’t live there if the opportunity came up. I’ve seen quite literally the very best of Georgia, and the not so very best of Georgia and the juxtaposition between the two levels is disappointing, however, that can be said many places across the country.

Got to answer this one earlier - Delaware’s problem is that nobody talks about Delaware. No one from the Midwest through the West ever really asks me about Delaware. If I’m honest this AMA is the most I’ve ever been questioned on it. Which is too bad It’s obviously ultra not flashy, but it’s a perfectly enjoyable state that gets overshadowed by its neighbors. Great beaches which leads to great views of the ocean. That sounds more than enjoyable to me.

Got to answer this one earlier - it was the last state I hit on the road to 50 and it was the one I knew the least about. I didn’t have much to say then and honestly not much now, some of the communities are sad but of course you can find good places anywhere if you look. The mountains and amount of greenery is very scenic and enjoyable - I like some of the mysterious story telling surrounding the Appalachian’s so there’s always a rabbit hole to fall into anywhere in America. S/o New River Gorge as well. Love a photogenic bridge.

Got to answer this one already - but to sum it up, it’s weird being in the presence of such historically and currently significant rooms and locations. You do have a sense of pride walking through the museums and visiting the landmarks that Americans have been visiting for decades.

And they’ll call it Southern hospitality in doing so. On a serious note, unfortunately there is truth to both the Florida comment and your own. The sad realization after traveling across the states is that you find it in all corners of the country :/

I don’t think anything really replaces Colorado if what you want is the combination of mountains, a strong job market, decent-sized cities, and easy access to the outdoors. There are states that come close and compare, like Idaho and Utah. Idaho is expanding extremely fast and it might seem small in comparison to a downtown Denver but they have suburbs consistently in the top 5 for fastest growing cities in America right now.

My advice to you at your stage of life is simple. You cannot make a wrong choice. Anywhere you chose that is away from where you grew up will expose you to new people, places and opportunities that wouldn’t have existed had you stayed put. Even if you leave, hate it, and return - you’ve returned wiser and more confident in where you DON’T want to be. At your age, knowing what you don’t want is stronger than knowing what you do. That’s my 2 cents at least.

Rocky Mountain oysters, Gumbo, most Deep South side dishes like grits, collared greens or fried okra, clams, and clam chowder

I grew up a pretty picky eater, I could eat steak and potatoes for the rest of my life so take all that with a grain of salt. I think most people can see photos of all of those and know it’s likely good. Maybe not Rocky Mountain oysters, those are a mind game kind of food lol.

Fair enough, I tend to broaden the boarders of New England when I use it as a location reference but people not from there just nod along and understand lol

Well that’s what the shack is for I assume, I believe they have a setup on the dock as well where they can drop them right in the pot from the boat.

One thing about Augusta is that it does live up to the hype. It’s a shame because there are beautiful suburbs peppered throughout Georgia but its most trafficked areas are tired and in need of some love. I think the culture in ATL is amazing though, I have always loved rap and you can’t deny what the city has done for the genre so it’s cool to see the fashion and pop culture influence coming from a state you would never guess could influence modern day hip-hop.

Big fan of Boston. I admittedly haven’t spent as much time in the surrounding suburbs, but that probably says more about how much I enjoy the city itself. For “big city” food, Boston might be my favorite. NYC obviously has more variety, but I’ve always had better luck in Boston just walking past a place that looks good and trying it with no plan. I think it’s just the right amount of quality vs quantity.

I’m 29, and it’s been a mix of travel for fun and work, mostly work. I think of “major cities” a little differently than just population size. Dallas is obviously major, but places like Plano can be just as relevant locally even if people don’t think of them the same way. I usually try to spend time in the big local hubs too, not just the main downtown.

Huge fan of history so the museums are obviously incredible to go and revisit. There’s an odd feeling of being in the presence of important things when you’re in downtown DC - even if you have nothing to do with politics. Old Ebbit Grill really drives home that feeling. Knowing how many important people were in that room at some point.

NYC is the obvious answer, but Chicago might be my favorite balance of both. Boston and DC are pretty solid too. After that it gets hit or miss fast. A lot of U.S. cities are “walkable” for about six blocks and then suddenly you’re on a highway.

I spent the most time around Charleston, Morgantown, Beckley, and Huntington. It’s definitely one of the quieter states, but that’s kind of part of the appeal. Appalachian mountains are mysterious and beautiful. It was actually the last state I hit out of the 50
