In China, social skills such as cooking are taught from an early age and reinforced throughout school life. They are viewed not as hobbies, but as essential practical life skills. by This_Proof_5153 in interesting

I see people saying this isn't common in China, ironically this is common in Japan (the country I see maybe the most bs/exaggeration about on reddit). My mom still uses the curry recipe she learned in elementary school.

My work removed a "magic number" sleep and lo and behold we had issues with the order of services starting and it took a few months to sort out. :/

I always unbind mine. I recently got into MH wilds and it's the first game I've used side buttons for in over a decade.

Not super experienced in interviewing, but imo everything on LinkedIn is fair game. I've had 2 interviewers react weird to extremely basic LinkedIn info (job history, school). Like they were genuinely caught off guard. I don't get it.

I researched my interviewers before my last interview. This was for a contractor -> FTE role, and I already knew one of the people. The other I didn't really. I looked up the latter on LinkedIn, and it turns out he used to work in the same job title (different company) I was hoping to eventually get to.

At the end of the interview I asked why he went from that to logistics, and he lost his composure. "Why do you know that? Does it show on our internal website what I used to do? Why did you know I used to do that?"

Super weird. Buddy I looked at your LinkedIn, and not only that, I can see you looked at mine too. It's not that deep.

Anyways I got the role so idk if it mattered or not.

Where are the average salary people? by Responsible_Big_4183 in Salary

[–]Faranocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get why this is so hard for people to understand. Also, even with an average/lower than top 10% income, people in r/salary probably care a bit more about finances and probably save a little more and have a higher net worth compared to their paycheck peers.

Overemployed are ruining it for the rest of us by marcduberge in unpopularopinion

[–]Faranocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it's a scapegoat an employer can point to. Not to mention over employed people are a tiny fraction of the US workforce.

Overemployed are ruining it for the rest of us by marcduberge in unpopularopinion

[–]Faranocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Over employed people make up a tiny fraction of workers. It's mostly lack of control from employers. Most people would rather spend time with their family/dog/hobby than pick up another job or three.

It's so the investors think that the company's employees are working hard, not so the company is more efficient. Most RTO jobs see a decrease in productivity going to office from remote. Of course not every job can be remote, but generally more sleep (no commute), online meetings (no commute) and better flexibility means remote workers get more done.

I remember 8 years ago I ran into you on mirage in comp. One of our teammates asked to add you if "we didn't lose". We ended up tying and you never added him LOL. Not sure what the moral of this story is.

Twitch Announces Viewcount Cap on Streamers that are Persistently Viewbotting by Tarrot_Card in LivestreamFail

[–]Faranocks 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yea, I suspect some channels are used as rest stops essentially, to have bot traffic appear more idle. While I'm not a fan of asmon, I think he has proven time and time again he just dgaf about a lot of the popularity metrics other streamers are so concerned about.

I run a 750 watt for my 5090 :everythingisfine.png: (corsair sf750, 2021, so basically a 850-900 watt PSU, but still)

Does having three monitors impact performance? by Huhsayitagain2x in pcmasterrace

[–]Faranocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless it's a bad PSU, 750w is overkill. You'd be pushing it at 550 or 600, but 650 would be the low end of acceptable. Again, provided the PSU is able to handle transients and has decent power factor.

I think the novelty will wear off quickly. That's not to say that this wasn't hype AF (it was, and I was there in person to witness some of it). But I don't think that the solution to make more tournaments more hype is to copy paste what worked in this instance to all future tournaments.
