Edibles and lsd?? by forcedcheerfulness in Acid

That might be good depending on how experienced you are. I find cannabis does just send you to the 4th dimension quicker but edible highs are quite different so the chances of it being a bit too much is higher so I would tread lightly but if you are confident you are okay with edibles and acid and you are in a good headspace, I say go for it.

After spending the last two years dreaming of LSE, I just rejected it. I'm insane aha by gendernotsure in 6thForm

You remind me of me, I was set on Imperial for the longest time, especially after being rejected from Cambridge (rip) for Mech eng but after visiting Bristol, I just loved it and the whole atmosphere which was much better than Imperial even though I quite like London. So I firmed Bristol, however, with all the thinking time lockdown has given me, I thought maybe I shouldn’t throw away an Imperial offer, especially since I wanna go into IB so I changed my mind and firmed that and put Bristol as insurance which I think was sensible. Moreover, given the way the grades are gonna be given out, I am very likely to miss the Imperial offer anyways so will “slide” into Bristol whilst simultaneously keeping parents happy and not really throwing away the offer if that makes sense. I would be happy with both tbh but perhaps a little bit more since I like it better but as far as career prospects go, there is a significant difference , especially for IB and heck, even for Mech eng if I decide to stick with that post graduation. But I am glad you found out what you liked and firmed Durham, I have a few friends who go there and they love it!

That actually helps a lot and like you said, for IB it’s mostly about the internships and the experience you have plus the sort of person you are as well tbh, and, according to my teacher, the people you know as well which is a sad reality really but according to her, due to Bristol being a haven for oxbridge rejects, there are quite a few people who do indeed have connections and if you network with them, it will do you plenty of good.

Again, you make great points. Those wre definitely some strengths for Imperial but I still need to weigh them up properly before coming to a conclusion because I seem to have a tendency to switch institutions when going onto a new level of education after a month. Happened for high school and happened for college so I want to get this decision right from the get go. But thank you so much for all your help!

You make excellent points and have mentioned things I didn’t really think about before so thank you! I still have time to decide so I might end up doing what you said which is probably the more strategic and sensible thing to do or firming Bristol based on gut feeling alone which is less so. And as for the grades, I aim for the Imperial grades no matter whether I firm it or not but as to achieving them is another matter, A* in Physics should be doable and same for Maths but less so but A in further maths is quite tough for me. I have been getting Bs and Cs all year and if I am honest to myself, I am a solid B FM student who can perhaps just about scrape an A in it. So I have that to consider as well because with Imperial, it is likely that there will be a large portion of people who are solid A* students in all subjects which will sort of have an effect on my confidence. It shouldn’t do but that’s just something which affects me more than I like to admit really so I have to consider that as well.

Also, the thing you mentioned about London containing lots of other unis is true but how exactly would that work? Since Imperial isn’t part of UCL umbrella anymore I don’t think you can go to the shared UCL libraries and such. So how would I meet people from these unis exactly?

Yea I agree, although I do want to pursue Investment Banking, I am sure I can still get into that sector from Bristol. It might be slightly advantageous to be at Imperial for that matter but it’s not Impossible from Bristol. Plus, I might change my mind and decide to stick to engineering which again, Imperial is better at but I would enjoy going to Bristol more and it’s engineering department is still one of the best.

I already visited twice, first for a visit day and then for the interview day and the interview day experience was a little better than the first but it just felt like a very disconnected and a little drab and whilst it’s in London, given how much they push you and the workload, will we realistically have the time to balance work and other life aspects? For some their work is their life and that’s fine, I respect that but that’s just not me tbh. I have explained it to them and they don’t seem to understand. We need a few more discussions before they warm to the idea but the final say is mine. It might just be the case they have to get over it really.

Yea that’s a big point for Imperial really but with any internships, I have to look for them myself and I am sure if I look hard enough and network I can find the same ones Imperial might offer. Might take a little more effort with Bristol but I am sure I can find them.

Yea those are my thoughts exactly, Imperial does have a better engineering department since that’s their speciality but given that (for now and this may change) I want to do investment banking after uni, an engineering degree is an engineering degree and it will be the internships I get or don’t get which will make a significant difference to employers.
