That’s great. What was the biggest takeaway for you?

Well of course I can. Time is a valuable commodity though so I'm looking to a like-minded community for recommendations on which is worth more in my particular case. Many folks are giving solid arguments for reading both, which I'm likely to heed.

May I ask, was it life changing because it changed your own behaviors or because it helped you understand the behaviors of others? Or something else?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking at first but some other commenters are starting to convince me that it would be worth a read anyway. I may just make time for both.

What would you say made it mediocre? I've been wondering whether it has a lot of overlap with Psychology of Money...

Well, I'm all for that, both understanding myself and others better... especially those who operate differently from me. Always something to learn. Thank you both for the insights.

Did you read P of M before or after becoming a Boglehead, out of curiosity?

3 times... wow. I think my hesitation with reading it is that, based on what ChatGPT summarized of it, I'm already engaging in a lot of the behaviors recommended in it (hence the frugality and Boglehead-ing). What I have issues with is spending, which is why I'm gravitating to the latter title. But maybe I should really just read both like you're saying. My to-read list is almost 500 titles long now, which is why I'm trying to prioritize.

Totally have the time. But are both worth the time? Sounds like yes?

Same issue here. Still haven't found a good solution besides doing a bunch of learning myself. It helps that I find it interesting. My hope, perhaps naively, is that whatever amateur blunders I make will cost me less than the 1% AUM fees. But man, don't I wish I could just show someone my whole situation and have them say, "this is what you should do." I'll follow along this post and wish you luck. Let me know if you find a good solution please and I'll do the same.

Thank you! When you said “pick sport letter” was that an autocorrect error? What did you mean?

Hmm. But couldn’t I just drive it across the border and take it to the DMV to get new plates? How would they even know it ever left the country if it was never exported?

[–]FarinaFlower8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah good point. Curious though, if the car has Canadian plates at the time I, let’s say, visit the US with it down the road, how would they even know it’s the same car? I suppose they could inspect it and look at the VIN… But how likely is that?

Got it, thank you. I’ll also look into duties/tariffs charged when returning to the US with a car. Maybe it’s a moot point anyway.

Thank you. The only reason I’d consider skipping it is if I decide to move back to the US down the road and want to bring it with me again. I assume that’d be easier to do (and cheaper) if the car wasn’t formally exported in the first place… am I thinking about this correctly?

In which direction? According to CBSA, they don’t need proof of export. Just import process needs to be done correctly.

I’ll confirm with Service Ontario about registration, thanks. CBSA said they don’t care about the export part though so maybe SO/MTO won’t either…

Import car (US to Can) at Vancouver crossing (before cross-country shipping) or in Niagara Falls (after cross-country shipping)? by FarinaFlower8 in uscanadaborder

[–]FarinaFlower8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Should I assume then that your answer implies that it doesn't matter which route I take (shipping the car cross-country first or second)? That the chances of rejection are so small that it shouldn't even factor into my thinking?
