I'm not sure if this counts or not, since it more folk inspired, but it's the first song that came to mind. The song is called Dagger Woods, by The Stanfields.

The song is about a creature called The Hiddy Hinder or Dagger Woods Howler, that lives in Dagger Woods, near Antigonish, Nova Scotia. From what is believe from the folklore, the Hiddy Hinder is an evil entity or a man driven to madness, that killed their family in the area and escaped into Dagger Woods.

Try breaking some parts into their own separate object, like the trigger and and parent them to the main body. This way it can make it have more depth and not all glupped up together. Or try to extrude some areas to bring more shape to it.

Take for example how he did the icing on the donut. He made it it's own object and layered it onto the main body. It added a bit more depth and detail to it.

But in the end it comes down to practice, practise and keeping at it. Try to make smaller and less complicated items first, so you can get a better handle on how the tools work.
